Omega constellation 14393, real?

Yes, I listened carefully and therefore declined the offer. As mentioned previously, I have no problem waiting. This is exactly what I am looking for. I originally imagined it with a date, but without one I find it just as beautiful, if not even more charming. With the box and papers, it would be perfect. In your opinion, what budget should be expected?

Welcome from another French member! 😀

A useful tool is the search here - putting the reference in the advanced search function and returning results only from the private sale section. See example at the bottom.

This gives you an overview of previous sales and a realised price point. Of course, bear in mind that watches are all different (condition, exact dial layout, case material etc., date or not etc, and location)… all of this will impact price. You can also search eBay sold listings. Only use sold items for reference price point, current listings can sometimes sit for months without being sold.

You can set up alerts for specific references in eBay for instance. Shipping is very usual these days, locating the example you’re after locally is harder and harder, especially if you’re not in a big city. That said it’s worth keeping an eye on local platforms. But be aware of scams and if unsure, ask for advice like you did here… with the best pictures possible. Sales on OF are generally much more scrutinised… and there is track record usually for most sellers. It’s works pretty well. I would narrow down the search within the EU only if you’re not familiar with shipping, to avoid nasty custom surprises.

People generally like no date - because it doesn’t break the symmetry of the dial. With a date, you might have to set it up each time you wear the watch (if not a daily). I personally prefer no date too for aesthetic reasons, but that’s personal. I don’t set the date on the watches I wear anyway, only the time. This reference without date is 14381.

To make the search easier, you can also possibly extend to references that have a similar style - for instance 2852, 2782 etc.

Box and papers is nice and definitely a small plus, but wouldn’t worry too much about these. You don’t wear them. You can always buy a box separately if you feel the urge.

The thing that is important though, is to anticipate a servicing cost (300-500€ these days at an Omega certified watchmaker). If people claim the watch has been serviced, there should normally be some paper to explain the extend of the service. If there isn’t, best to assume it hasn’t been.

Bonne chance avec la recherche!

Example of search on the forum.

If a watch of this reference were to be for sale on this forum, and given that I live in France, do you know whether shipping would be complicated?

A good amount of users here is based in EU, so a european deal is possible.

Hi @Mel57. I believe an example as nice as this (which I was very lucky to get) would now sell between collectors for about USD 1800. A watch dealer would charge quite a lot more, maybe 30%. Other OF members might have different ideas but I am confident that I am on the low side.
The case is almost pristine and the original box is superb.

Thank you for all this information, it’s really great and reassuring for shipping to France. I will therefore start my research.
A big thank you to everyone for your help!

Thank you, that’s a superb example you have there, truly beautiful! It’s exactly what i’m looking for.
If anyone from the forum happens to come across this and would like to sell a watch like yours, that would be perfect.

Due to the exceptional condition and having the original box and papers makes this watch quite special and I agree that it would definitely command a significant premium over similar watches.

@Mel57
finding a watch like this, in this condition, is something that might come around once in a collector's lifetime - so don't set your bar so high that you might never achieve your goal.

With a bit of patience you should be able to find a good version of this watch reference.
Try setting up alerts with a platform like watch recon, then you will also have sight of watches in auction houses.

Yes, of course, an example like this one especially if it is complete truly be the holy grail for me. That said, finding a watch in very good condition, even without its box and papers, would not be an issue. I am not looking to resell it at all. Purchasing a watch of this reference holds deep sentimental value for me: I know I would keep it for my entire life, with the intention of passing it on to my children one day.

I am therefore not in a hurry and am willing to take the time needed to make the right purchase. However, I am not very comfortable with auction sites such as eBay. I am by no means an expert, unlike many of you. For this reason, buying through the forum in the future would give me much greater peace of mind.

Buying through the forum is a good idea.
However,Auction houses are not the same as auction sites like Ebay.
You do still need to know what you are looking at but in either case, if you see something that you like, you can always ask for comments here.

Of course, I will look on auction websites and get back to you to ask for advice if I find something.
However, a purchase on this forum would probably be more secure.

Hello,
I have received another offer: Omega constellation ref 14381, from 1959 from, caliber 551.
The watch will be serviced and cleaned, with light polishing available if i wish. The crystal is signes, and the crown is believed to be original.
He will also source an original Omega buckle.
The price is 2200€.
I would appreciate your opinion, please. Thank you very much!

I would say that is a much nicer watch.

It doesn’t have the crosshairs but it does have onyx inserts.

The price is still high - but if the watch will be properly serviced this would save you a few hundred Euro.

However, if it’s a watch you like then the money will be quickly forgotten.

Personally, I would say “no polishing” but that would be up to you.

Looks like a winner. Very nice condition and no date ref is preferable.
With service buckle etc price is reasonable for a special purchase. And if local dealer don’t have to worry about shipping customs etc.

Yes, in much better condition and completely original, i really like it.
Indeed, the absence of a date gives the dial a beautiful harmony and symmetry. I think I might give in.
And you’re right, polishing is not necessary.
