·Today I have for sale this very charming and attractive Omega chronograph ref 174-3 (2451) with very early calibre 321 from around 1950.
The double-signed cream two-tone dial is lovely and full of character with its silvered tachymetre scale and lumed dot markers and arabics. It is signed both Swiss and Importe de Suisse under the logo. Sword hour and minute hands, black subdial and a blued chronograph seconds hand complete the look.
The heavy steel 35mm x 42mm screw back case is in unpolished condition, with sharp edges and some signs of its 76 years. It wears large due to its chunky construction. Waterproof pushers. The unsigned crown has some of its steel plate missing. This is the crown I bought it with and have left it on as it doesn’t affect functionality and I wasn’t sure whether it is the original one or not.
The screw back is fantastic with its deep engravings. Inside is signed 174-3, this is a Lemania reference number which was used in the early production run of this case style for some reason for Omega, Tissot and Lemania and later became Omega ref 2451.
The movement is a nice and early manual winding Omega calibre 321 with lovely copper finish. It is winding and setting smoothly and keeping good time and the chrono is starting, stopping and re-setting properly. It was serviced in 2016. I have taken this into account with my pricing. Selling head only.
