Do the serial numbers run concurrently . Dealer showing me serial number starting 8299 and saying it's a 2022 model ,on Chrono24 someone selling one with serial number starting 8934 and saying it's a 2020 model , so higher number later model or am I missing something ?
Breaking down the logic here:
A serial number of 1000 will have been made after a serial number of 0001 - but they could have both been made on the same day.
This has nothing to do with when they are sold.
The dates on the card only refer to when they are sold, not when they are made.
So:
Serial number 0001 could have been sold in the year 2000
Serial number 1000 could have been sold in the year 2020
Or depending on where they are shipped to, and how much a dealer clears stock:
Serial number 0001 could have been sold in the year 2020
and serial number 1000 could have been sold back in 2000.
This is all assuming that there is one movement type that uses all the serial numbers (that's not how it works, but it makes for a simpler explanation).
So, in short - there is no definitive way of knowing with a new/current/made in the last 10 years model if serial X was made before serial Y, but you can make the
logical assessment that the lower numbers were made before the higher ones.
As to which years "model" a watch is, unless a watch is newly released in a year, then it's hard/a bit daft to say it's that years watch - collections stick around for a few years - so something might be a 2018 model (the year it was released) but sold in 2015.
