I've been looking at this Century on ebay. It has a black (don't have but want) waffle, hobnail or honeycomb (whatever you want to call it) dial--my new favorite. It looks okay in its Star case but not sure about the crown. No watchers and no bids makes me wonder if it's flying under the radar or is it a dog? The picture are atrocious.

The Century is a legitimate model that was made for the North American market in the 1950's and '60's. Most of the Centuries I've seen were solid 18K or steel. These all have Swiss made cases. Crown isn't right, but this should be an easy fix.

My concern is the age of the movement. It has a 15M serial number. Dates from 1956 or so. Not sure if they go back that far.

    OVD says 1961:

However, there is a 1959 price list out there that shows the Century with a gold filled case. This could be the one that list is referring to. Gold filled cases would have almost certainly have been US made. A good sign.

The price is pretty good. Might be worth taking a chance on it.

I just love spending other people's money! ;)

PS - Just found this example, which is a sweep seconds version. Also has a black guilloche dial with similar markers. Also has an earlier movement (14.9M serial) and gold-filled Star WCC case. Looking better all the time.

Wow, I missed that. What in the world happened there? Sure explains the lack of interest.

The Ranchero was the cheapest Omega you could buy in 1959.

    It isn't anymore.

We only start buying poor sellers now and hope they become rare watches in 20 years down the road.

Lume hands, no lume plots on dial. Did that ever come in a black dial? Did it ever come with crosshairs?

See examples above. There is radium residue in the markers. The worn out case is the big problem.

Otherwise, I believe it's all original except the crown.
