Hi,
Just wondering if any of the members have seen these markings on a casebackof a 33mm cased Omega? Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers Russell.

would need to see the movement. I think the watch is a fake. The dial is horrible the text is too small for the omega symbol furniture.

It does not appear to be an Omega case-back at first glance. Can we see the inside?

Hi,
Well I have the watch with me now as I ended up buying it from the son of the original owner. The original Guarantee is dated 31st July 1956 with the movement by serial dating to 1954.
The movement # is 14236344.
Cal 420.
Caseback serial # 485239 which I haven't seen like this before.
The dial has Swiss Made under the 6.
The finishing to the sides and between the lugs is interesting.
Any info would be much appreciated.
Cheers Russell

Interesting. Seems like maybe it could be some sort of nationally cased watch I haven't seen before. Where is Hobart?

Hi Dan,
Hobart is in Australia. The inside caseback number 485239 is interesting as I haven't see it like this before.
Cheers Russell.

Ah, well you are in luck. This is an Australian forum. Most likely that number is a proprietary serial number for an Australian case maker. There doesn't appear to be a maker's mark inside the case, but most likely there were only a small number of Australian case-makers that imported Omega watches in that era.

Thanks Dan.
Interested to find out more information on watch and case maker. No case maker marks only the Omega stamp.
Cheers Russell.

The only name I can recall is Handley. Maybe if you google that it will turn up something.

It is a Handley cased watch. They also sold cal.420s in the same ribbed cases in 9ct rose gold, which seem to be the only cases that sported the handley logo

I think I have a similar ribbed case somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.
As Dan mentioned, I think they are SS cases done by Handley in Melbourne.
Coincidentally, my Darlin' was in the city today and her tram ride took her past the site of the old Handley factory, I think it's an apartment complex now.

The Handley factory in 1953.

Found it.
I've seen a number of these in the local market places over the years.

Many thanks.... thanks for sharing. A very unique case design.
I think it has a sort of 1950s style, flared lug and parallel ribbing.
