Omega Bumper - How Not To Repair

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to share a couple of quick pics. As the likes of Al and Chris will attest to, us watchmakers see it all on vintage watches. I recently had an old bumper through. It sat at at a well known jewelry/watch store in Canada for the better part of 2 years. The watchmaker then apparently retired and to ‘help’ the customer out they sent it directly to Swatch in Toronto. Now, swatch TO don’t service these anymore. So first lie. Secondly, here’s what I found:

Sorry it’s a blurry pic. Note the centre wheel hike in the plate. It’s been punched up in all directions to try and close the gap . This is supposedly after Omega serviced it.

So, I got to work and drilled out the hole.

Finding centre was a fun job as the hole was fairly mangled.

I could then fit a new bushing and drill that out to size.

From the dial side

Anyway, just wanted to share that with everyone.

Yes, this is a Bienne only caliber, so if it was sent to Toronto, it would have been forwarded to Bienne, and they wouldn't have left it like that...
