Hi everyone just went to a local watchmaker today to get a price for a service (just the movement no case polish etc). My price I was quoted was $600. I called omega they said between $400-700 with total case polish, crystal replaced (my crystal is new), and gaskets with a 2 year warranty. My watch maker said it wouldn't be unusual for him to service the watch and few months later it break  . Then also said if I went to omega for the service that the movement wouldn't be mine they usually swap it out with a serviced 565 in stock. That seems like total BS. Does this price sound reasonable? Don't want the wait time to deal with omega ( informed approx. 6 months.....) I don't mind 1-2 months.

Also the local watchmaker is the only one in the province of Newfoundland. So getting more prices for repair is difficult. My watch is running strong but don't know the service history and would like it serviced.

$600 to service a simple Omega automatic is crazy money shouldn't be more than $150-$200 or so.

No Omega does not just swap out your movement for another one they have on, this is total crap.

There are several watchmakers here on the forum which could do the work for you.

If it's only a service and no parts are needed, I can't see spending more than $250. I think Norm is about right with his estimate. The one thing I've seen with the 5xx series (50x, 55x, 56x, and 75x) is that the set bridge needs to be replaced more often than most other parts. Of the several dozen Omegas I've owned over the last 5 or 6 years, I can recall a 501 (being serviced now), 562 (last year), and a 751 (2 or 3 years ago) needing that part replaced.

Steve / N2FHL is another watchmaker & member.

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on what parts are needed. Could be a lot less.

That would add about $50 for a genuine Omega part.

The way the "quick set" date works with a 565 does take its toll on the setting lever spring (setting bridge) because it increases the fatigue on t very thin piece of hardened steel.

Do you not have a postal service there? Most good watchmenders seem to do most of their business by post these days, and Al Archer is even in the same Country as you I believe.

Ment to say $400-700 for movement, case, crystal and gaskets. Yes it is $179 for polish by omega. Also there shipping is free with fedex. I found a great watchmaker that will be servicing my watch soon. Waiting for my hands from omega to show up so i can send it all off.

If your watchmaker expects a Calibre 565 will fail within a few months of being serviced by him, I wouldn't be using him for anything tbh

I fellow member here on the forums is going to service my watch he assumes will take approx. 1 month that is due to other watches he is servicing as well and I find this extremely reasonable.
