Omega 470 vs 490 - 1243 part

Hello,

I m trying to find a spare part: 490-1243 (but can t find any for the past weeks).

As I don t have a lathe (tho seems like the best option now to start learning), wanted to ask if the 470-1243 (4th wheel) is similar to the 490-1243 (I know they do share some parts).

If someone with more knowledge on this could help.. would be super helpfull

As far as I recall 470 is center seconds. 490 is sub seconds, so the train is different.
The 4th wheel carries the seconds hand on the 4th wheel. This often gets bent or broken. Given that it is only used in 490/491 locating one will be difficult and require a bit of luck.
470 is closer to the 500 series. These use a double third wheel to reverse the seconds to the sweep pinion.
The 55x/56x uses a completly different train with a floating sweep pinion to clear the automatic works. The 600 series uses a bridged sweep pinion.
Most of the parts in common relate to the setting and automatic works. Finding these differences takes a lot of research and study.

Yep yep, I know that they differ on many aspects (from a caliber perspective), but tho there are also some parts that are interchangeable between the two (ex the release wheel).

That s why I was questioning a bit if this may be a possibility with the seconds/4th wheel

The answer is right in the part number. Omega does not sue different part numbers for the exact same part, so if the part number differs, as it does in this instance, the parts are not the same.

If the Cal. 490 used the 470 part, they would just call it the 470 part number.

Would you reconn they still sell these old parts to authorised repair shops?
