My local watch repairer has offered me this. Rare movement that I know. Very unusual 18k solid gold case with spider leg lugs and a large size for an older watch makes it wearable. I like it a lot but have no idea as to value and if it is original unrestored etc. but what do the experts think on it?
The dial has been (not terribly expertly) restored, and the crown is probably for a 70s model. I personally would pass on it. edit: Hey, I echoed Mike, and I hadn't even read his simultaneous post.
The dial is a real shame as I can see by the lugs that it is a relatively rare Ref. 14311: http://omega-constellation-collectors.blogspot.com/2009/03/rare-14311-globemaster-surfaces.html http://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-14311-a-chronometre-review.4566/ gatorcpa
It still has value but in my eyes it's only worth gold melt value plus a couple of hundred for the movement. If you can get it for around the gold value it may be worth to have it professionally redone imo.
That one Steve had is absolutely epic, thanks for digging the pics up. I think those 352RGs and 30T2RGs have lead to a lot of people trying to cash in on poor watches due to the amount of discussion of those movements by guys like Desmond and on members on here. I think the key thing is if the watch is all good to start with, dial, case and movement then having one of the less common RG movements is really nice as icing on the cake but in cases like this its all icing and no cake.
Many thanks again to all here. Saved me from making another mistake. I love this forum and the sharing of knowledge imparted. A very valuable resource.
Also got offered vintage Jaeger by same seller which I have posted elsewhere on this forum for expert opinion. If anyone is interested in these watches to buy direct from the seller located in New York just PM me for more details.
I second Kyle's opinion and would buy it if the price is right. This watch with original dial is really rare to come by and it won't become less rare going forward.
Ah but what is right price!!!??? I thought to replace dial if movement or case is very rare but not so sure now. Hmmm.
