Hello!

New member here.

I've just purchased a JDM 3511.50. The watch is great except for one problem, and that is it's incredibly hard to read the dial because the crystal gives off a milky white appearance at some angles.

The black dial actually appears grey in most instances, and I often have to angle the dial away to read it.

Is this normal?

I get the impression that Omega never applied an anti-reflective coating to the crystal, but I'm just speculating here.

I've attached a photo, but the camera isn't really able to pick up the problem I'm complaining about. In reality, it is much more opaque. But to help you get an idea of what I mean, it's like having the lenses of your glasses fog up.

No AR coating on these that I am aware of. Could be a film on the inside of the crystal.

You might want to get it looked at anyway, because the movement doesn't appear to be properly seated - there is a gap around the dial that shouldn't be there.

Cheers, Al

Thanks Al!

I hadn't noticed the gap around the dial. Now you mention it, I think I can see what you're talking about, but I'll need to find a loupe or something in the morning and take a better look.

Is an improperly seated dial a big problem? I thought tolerances would be tighter and such a thing couldn't happen.

I'm within the return window, so I can still return the watch if I want to.

Thanks again.

Most likely the case clamps are not installed correctly, but it’s an easy fix.

Maybe the glass was replaced with a poor quality one. I understand your problem because i think every one will want a crystal clear glass on Omega.

I need to find a local watchmaker who take a look at it

Thanks Al,

Need to see if I can track down a local watchmaker.

Yes, that is something I considered. The crystal looks spotless when compared to the rest of the watch, but if there is no AR coating on it, I guess that shouldn't be a surprise.

I have a triple date and although the coating on that is deteriorating, the black dial is as clear as can be.

Thanks for your reply.
