I wish I had the new Ed White to help you with the decision, but I'm sure someone with deeper pockets will chime in shortly.

Welcome back! I hope to see @JwRosenthal back from his hibernation one of these days, too.

I think if we arrange enough vintage Zodiacs and Bulovas in a circle and say the right incantation we may be able to summon him.

YMMV, better to try it out before deciding.

Here’s my Snoopy 50th, ST1, and 321 EdWhite. My wrist is slender, ~16.7 cm, and I always feel 321 EdWhite is the easiest fit, despite l2l longer than the Snoopy.

I have owned 3861 sapphire before, could not find wristshot with it offhand, but wearing it would be easier because it’s thinner than the Snoopy.

Welcome back! I have missed having your point of view around here.

I can't help with your question, but I can relate a bit: straight lugs bug me too. Maybe it's my wrist shape, but lyre lugs just seem to work better for me.
Thank you!

Welcome back SC1. Owning Trilogy models, the 3861 professional and the Ed White- the 3861 is the easiest wearing on my smaller wrist.

I sold both heritage models of the Seamaster 300 as they were just on the longer side, especially the 2014 iteration.

The Ed White fits much better than those models, similarly to the Trilogy model you mentioned. If you like those you’ll wear the Ed White very well.

The watch is well worth the price of admission, and if you are anything like me you probably overthink an issue that does not actually matter or exist. Go for it. I’d happily keep just the Ed White over the others.

My wrist is 6.5 inches or thereabouts.

Where did you get that strap on the 321 BTW? Looks really good

Thanks mate, it’s a great strap. It is a “Marmorino Tan” two stitch from Atelier de Griff. Suits the watch head pretty well.

For those with the Ed White and 3861 Speedmaster how do they compare in fit in the wrist? What about the 321 versus the modern FOIS (1st 1861 or second 3861 generations) ?

Regarding prices for used ones, you can do pretty well in Asia vs US prices. The money saved is significant enough to fund the trip from the U.S. and you can enjoy a vacation in Japan, Hong Kong, or Singapore to boot.

What is the ongoing price in Japan for a used 321 Speedmaster 311.30.40.30.01.001 ?

On a watch like this I would go for full set only. Will give you peace of mind and be more desirable to the next buyer should you ever want to move it along.

The 3861 is easier to wear as a daily watch, shorter lug to lug, slightly less height than the 321 which makes it fit under tighter cuffs a little easier. Bit of a splitting hairs situation, I’d be happy to wear either any day of the week.

Honestly, to me, both the 321 Ed White and the 3861 Silver Snoopy wear similarly. I scarcely notice any difference.

Isn't the snoopy known for being particularly thick? Does the 321 fit under sleeves easily or get stuck and forced to stay out

rarely see the 321 on anything aside from the OEM bracelet, looks good on leather. Is it capable of going under a long sleeve?

The 321 fits extremely well under the cuff. The thickness of the Speedmaster Calibre 321 is 13.8mm, and the Silver Snoopy measures 14.47 mm in thickness. Both fit under the cuff well. However, I wear my Snoopy with the AT blue sailcloth and the deployant clasp so it sits a tad bit higher on the wrist.

First off, hello everyone...

it's been a long while since I was regularly posting here ~ life, ups and downs, also: staying away somewhat reduced the endless pit of watch purchasing possibilities.

That said, I have been experiencing that itch to purchase a watch that I've wanted for a while but have always talked myself out of for two distinct reasons -

Price (isn't it usually that?)
and,
L2L (I tend to be quite OCD about lug to lug with 46.xx being my sweet spot and 48 being my absolute limit).

Finally the damn question...

I am strongly considering the hand-assembled 321 Ed White, and while I've finally braved up to the price of admission (pre-owned of course) I am still continually climbing back on the fence because of the 48mm L2L.
I own a couple Omega LE Heritage models, the Seamaster and the Railmaster, love them both but generally don't wear them because of the faux-tina but especially because of the classic lugs.
They fit me per se but they don't have that X factor like my other Omegas that feature lyre lugs.

So, for any current owners of the new Ed White...

1. Have you had any "adaptability" issues with the classic lug style on your wrist -- or was it just easy sailing and love at first sight?

2. If these same owners could chime in on also owning a Speedmaster with the lyre lugs and how the two different Speedmaster cases (321 Ed White & Professional models) suit them with regard to the lug styling & lug to lug length differences I'd appreciate it?

Thanks much 👍
Hello, I own both 321 new EW and 3861 speedmaster. I strongly suggest you try each of them on your wrist several times on different outfits if possible. In my case, I never doubted 321 EW will be good on my wrist, because 3861 one fits well on me && 321 has smaller diameter. However, after purchase and several real life wearings, I came to realize that thickness and L2L are as important as or in some cases more so than diameter. I like 3861 fit much much better than 321 new EW which comes in 13.7mm thickness and I think that is beyond my unconsciously engraved limit to what I like.

I have 16.5cm wrist in circumference, and boutique salespeople say mine is flat than tall/thick, if that helps.

I don't have a new 321 (yet), but I have four 3861s. My OB calls every time she gets or is getting an Ed White, but I haven't been in a position to buy it. It'll happen eventually though.

I second this. As an owner of the current gen Moonwatches and an Ed White, 3861 Moonwatch indeed wears better than Ed White. It's thinner to begin with and the presence of crown guard makes it feel more balanced and compact on the wrist, the EW simply feels taller and more "pronounced".
