Hey guys, I've come across this. The seller is asking 3850euro, which seems very steep, but to does look like a great example. I like the dial, the hour markers, the hands.... More photos to come
Its had a bit of polishing, dial has a bit of discolouration around the subdials by the looks, but 3850 euros is a LOT of money. That's close to $5,500 AUD. I paid around $3150 AUD for mine in rose gold including the service, and I like the brushed silver dial with coffin markers a lot more than this one.
Your dial is definitely nicer. You've got the same hour markers and hands, don't you? The other ones I've seen around with different markers and hands don't do it for me anywhere near as much. I'm definitely going to pass at the offer price (it started even higher). I assume there is no point dibs-ing yours!

Is the crown correct for that watch? and what is the size? The one I am buying looks like this , 37mm (not receive it yet)
Just bear in mind that in five years time 3850 euros will probably seem cheap, especially for solid 18k gold.
near to nothing in relation to the asking price! The melting value does not influence the price on collector´s watches like these I guess... It is different if an Omega original heavy weight gold bracelet was included! just my thoughts...
Agreed - I would prefer Hoi's watch - jumbo in stainless steel over the smaller version in 18k gold condition and originality level being equal. The gold "melt value" plays a role in pricing when it comes to the more common examples but plays little to no role the higher up the collecting ladder you go - with the most valuable vintage omegas being either stainless steel sports watches in steel like the early speedmasters or rare gold models such as the cloisonne dial constellations and seamasters (which are valuable because of their rare dials and not because of the case metal). The platinum omegas are also valuable but again - because they were made in such small numbers and not because of the "melt value" of the metal.
There is another advantage to the solid gold models - they command more interest and higher prices from collectors because they were not only less plentiful than their steel counterparts (they were after all more expensive at the time of their sale) but because of this issue they were also more "babied" and less worn out than their steel counterparts. With one caveat - they are also more likely to be polished to death be watch dealers who do not appreciate the sharp bezels and edges that collectors often seek out.
My crown isn't original at all, its yellow gold plated not rose gold, so its a different colour from the watch, and its wider. The upshot however is that its quite easy to grip, pull out, and wind. AFAIK the original crowns are not available any longer.
Let him sweat a bit more, then see if he'll negotiate down some more. In the end, it's a pretty fine looking watch, and as John said, perhaps in a few years time, it will seem cheap. Like land, they're not making more of them (well, they are in some countries... but that's a different story). By the way, that background looks familiar from the Bay... doesn't this guy chuck some lesser specimens on there from time to time? I seem to recall having a good look at a UG Polerouter or similar that some vendor using the same map paper background there a few months ago.
Mine is the standard size which is about 35.5mm, it does wear a bit bigger than that though due to the pushers and thin bezel with large dial, from a distance it looks bigger than a Rolex Datejust
