Omega 2808 advice...

Hi everyone,

just bought this Omega 2808-3 and I am trying to check authenticity.

I have found some postings and images for 2808-1 with cal 30T2 and 266, but can not find any info on the 2808-3.

According to movement serial it’s a late 1950 which is correct for model.

Should the crown and crystal be signed?

thanks

I’m no expert on that model but the split second track looks very wrong on a sub second dial watch so I vote redial.

The movement serial being 13.3m would be dated to the early 1950s, circa 1952-3.

Yes I would expect a signed crown but not necessarily signed crystal at that age.

Not necessarily so. These 1/5th seconds tracks are uncommon on subsec-watches but they do exist original from the factory.
I have even found them on 30T2Rg chronometre dials when I researched for my book.
Uncommon but legitimate.

Well, the dial of the OP is most likely a re-dial but for other reasons. One of them is the odd sub second track.

Yeah but what do you know. It’s not like you wrote the book on them.

Oh. Right.

Thanks for the replies.

The watch is being sold by a watch shop in London. The are offering 6 months warranty, full service and guarantee of authenticity or your money back.

My only concerns were 1/5th split and for a 2808 the second dial at 6 is smaller than others I have seen. The hands are correct and right for the dial. But the million dollar question is, is the dial correct. It’s is not a redial, so could only be from another vintage watch.

thx

Really? How do you know?

I am wary of any 60+ year old dial that does not have patina. These watches were not waterproof and Omega used natural lacquers that yellow with age.

IMO, this is a very nicely done redial.

PS - Crown should be signed. Crystal maybe.

the only other one I have found 2808-3 in gold does not have a signed crown.

You really should provide some macro images of the dial if you want an accurate assessment, but at a glance i would agree with Gator, redial.

Sub-second printing is drawing my attention as well as how the seconds track crowds the raised numerals.

And now the initial picture disappears. Curiouser and curiouser. I guess he didn't get the answer he was hoping for.

How goes the saying? A photo or it did not happen...

Here is a CK 2181 out of my collection with original dial which shows the 1/5th-second-track:

It is a large watch at 37,5 mm with a cal 30 T2 inside (unfortunately still with a wrong replacement crown...)

I think it was only a matter of design to print this additional second track

enjoy

Ref 2808 from AJTT:

My sense is the dial of yours is refinished, and that the seconds hand and crown have been replaced.

Why were you asked to remove photos, and by whom?

was the seller trying to hide something?

Yes, repainted. If you like repainted, wear it with pride. Have seen worse repaints... Once you want to sell it, everything starts again. Kind regards. Achim
