Omega 2766 with original strap?

Hey guys,

I've just received an Omega Seamaster 2766. I'm pretty ecstatic about the watch and it's probably in the nicest condition of any Omega I've personally owned. Unfortunately the crystal is not original probably because it was changed for the auction listing.

Based on the movement number it's from 1952.

Now I've seen several threads on original straps, but I didn't find many pictures of actual ones. The strap on my watch appears to be very similar to the ones seen on Omega's in the 50's, however it does not appear to be signed.

Any thoughts? Does this look like a correct strap for a 50's Seamaster?

Thanks all

Very nice watch. I have no idea if the strap is 70 years old, but the style is certainly very appropriate.

I appreciate your thoughts and comments, guys.

In the end, it doesn't matter much if the strap is original or not, but it would be a nice detail. And we do love to obsess about details, don't we. 😀

In terms of the style, with the thick band on the edges and the stitching next to it, it seems very close to those seen in the advertisements.

This is from the Omega website for ref 2766:

Looking at a video from Omega enthusiast, the original straps were signed with a gold colored logo. Of course it could have worn off my strap, who knows... There doesn't seem to be any trace of it.

Judging by the condition of the watch, which looks to be outstanding, it wouldn't surprise me if that was the original strap. It certainly looks period correct at the very least.

Regardless of whether or not the strap is original, it’s a handsome watch in excellent condition. I have a 1950 Seamaster 2576 in my collection that is somewhat similar - contemporary strap though.

If it is indeed an original strap - and as mentioned above, it looks correct in style - you might not want to wear it. Personally, I wouldn’t want to trust in 70 year old leather to keep my beautiful watch from hitting the concrete. May I suggest Matteo Torre @torrestraps for having a brand new example in that exact style handmade to your measurements? Outstanding quality, Matteo is a super nice guy with passion for vintage watches and corresponding straps coming out of his ears.

Original Omega straps - made in Japan - are made for the Japanese climate.😎
