Hi all,

I’m new to Omega watches and have been eying this 2561.80.00 for a while, picked it up today from a local pawn shop chain for £1,195.

I Had it taken to a local watchmaker who said the quartz movement looked kosher. Decided to come on here for a second opinion from you guys.

A few things I have noticed which seem a little odd are as follows:
- Bezel seems to be slightly out of alignment.
- Lume seems to be applied rather messily and is not central on all dial markers it also fades quickly.
- Warranty card hasn’t been completely filled out.
- clasp opens easily (this could be to do with age)
- Second hand doesn’t consistently hit dial markers

I’ve noticed online some other watches have similar issues but there doesn’t seem to be much talk about this particular model online. Also would it be worth taking it down to my local Omega boutique for their opinion? Any help or pointers are greatly appreciated

Kind regards, Jono

It is real. I do not know if it has been relumed. With that bracelet always push the tabs when you put it on. The clasp tends to wear out if you don't.

It all looks good to me.

regarding the lume - in that era, pre metal surrounds, Omega only put lume on the center part and the white paint underneath would show on the edges. It was a little sloppy like this. At least it was on one I bought from an AD in the late 90s.

Regarding the card - everything used to be filled completely by hand. The seller didn’t want to mess with writing out the serial number/ref number. Not unusual. It’s worthless now, anyway, but it does look legit.

The seconds hand will rarely hit every seconds mark all around the dial. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Thanks for the reply! Really helped 👍 Another thing I’ve noticed is the date sits a little weird in the date window, is this common? Cheers!

If I were you I would send this in to Omega for a full service. The investment of few hundred pounds will give you total peace of mind re: authenticity (which no one here can do) and will handle all of the issues you’ve mentioned—plus shine it up like new. I’d say you paid a fair price for the rough condition that watch is in—such that the cost of service will add offset itself with new value added. And you’ll get a service warranty too—that will help if you end up wanting to sell it.

No fakes of the quartz midsize SMP were ever made that looks that good. That's not a fake.

I’ve got the 41mm version of this and it has all the same ‘quirks’ as yours - it’s just character! The only thing different is my lume is green and yours looks blue.

@Number3

Thanks for the reply! The more I look at it the more I seem to see haha, the top of the ‘a’ in the Seamaster logo is missing and the underside of the lug finishing isn’t perfect (where the bracelet covers) is this to be expected?

Regarding the lume, in person the lume is more green than blue, looks extremely blue in the photos for some reason…

I think you should stop looking for issues with your watch and start enjoying it. It’s a 25-30 year old watch and is not going to be perfect.
