Hi there. I have just purchased the following 1963 'Omega' Cal 285.17 jewels, serial number 20478779 Stainless steel bezel and back, with all boxes and papers.
I would like if possible to determine what model it is? On the original guarantee it just says 'Omega GTS S/watch'
Any ideas please? Thank you

There should be a reference number stamped inside the case back, this would be the model.

Thanks for that. Inside the case back it is marked 'Acier Inoxydable 131.001-63-SC'

It looks like a very nice example. If you do an image search for the reference number you can see what other dial variants exist and how yours compares to others. If it were me I would change that bracelet for a leather strap or a 5-row Omega BOR.

Movement may be cal 286, but clearer photos are needed.

Laughs, good answer!
Your watch is in great external condition but may well need a service, also you can buy a product called polywatch to clear up some of the scratches on the crystal
Enjoy.

Hi,

Nice set!
Is there lume on the dial? I cannot see it. But as the hands have lume, if they are original, there should be lume on the dial as well.

Ok. I thought I could see lume on the hands. Must be the pic.
Yes thank you. I have been in touch with the seller and it has never had replacement hands or face, and is a one owner watch since 1963. He also said that it hasn't to his knowledge been serviced either, so need to sort that out. What is the average cost of a service please? Thanks again

Being an old raver I guess you are in the UK? One of the members here @ChrisN is a UK based watchmaker and while I haven’t actually employed his services seems very competent and knowledgeable. There is watchguy.co.uk who also seem decent, if you can actually get a slot for servicing that is and a lot of people also like Swiss time services and Simon Freese.
Or you can start a new thread asking for recommendations near to you.
But don’t just hand it in to Omega, who may well return it looking brand new, as opposed to the vintage watch it is.

Excellent thank you for the info, yes from the UK and a Rave DJ still LOL. I will pursue the names that you have suggested. I have heard the same about Omega replacing what they think is fit and ending up looking new, I would not want that.
Thanks again.
