OMEGA 1957 Trilogy Limited Editions complete set - advice needed...

Hi guys,

Looks like I will be able to buy a complete Trilogy set directly from an AD. It costs quite a lot of money and to be honest I am only interested in the Speedy (I could not get a Speedy from the AD so they offered me the complete set after I turned down an offer to buy the Seamaster). So what do you think, will I get back my money (or at least the most of them) if I keep the set for a couple of years (until I get tired of the watches) and then sell it? I know it is almost impossible to foresee the future but some of you might have a better picture of the demand for the set? I have seen it on Chrono24 and the asked price is almost $29k.

Cheers,
Hans

I've seen loads of the speedmasters for sale on this forum (check both sales sections; private and dealer). Why get the whole set when you can get exactly what you want for a lot less money?

By the way, I wouldn't have passed on the Seamaster. It's my personal favourite and the best of bunch, in my humble opinion. Don't own one, but one day...

You should be able to get a Speedmaster and as others noted I'd definitely go that route over the trilogy. In fact I'd go after all three individually rather than the trilogy and even if you had to pay over above MSRP for the Speedmaster you could still probably come out ahead in the end when compared to just buying the trilogy.

I think the trilogy will appreciate better over time as it's a limited edition and very small run, these are 3 amazing watches that until recently would have been only a dream, and in my opinion very good value(ceramic Daytona currently £15k) the individual watches are also a great purchase however I think having 3 rare matching numbered watches in a set with box etc....has more appeal.

I don't disagree with this, but I think it will be down to the buyer to a degree. From what I've seen the overwhelming response has been that people don't like the numbers on the dial. Firmly in that camp myself. That said they will be more rare and that will likely appeal to some. Ideally one would own three individual pieces all numbered 0, 1 or 1957. And since we're talking numbers, I will reiterate that Omega should have only made 1957 of each piece with maybe 57 or 157 trilogy sets. Finally, I just have to add that I don't even know what number my Speedy is.

If omega stop numbering the dial I bet the demand for numbered will go through the roof lol!!!

Agree. If they didn’t number the dial and perhaps do something extra special like providing SEL versions of the original end links and bracelets so that it can be as close as possible to the originals that would just about kill it.

The hottest picture currently across this forum will be the first real world trilogy photo.
especially for those of us who have bought the “standard” versions.
Even just to reassure us that we did the right thing

I don't understand why anyone would want to limit the production of these majestic pieces so that less people can obtain them. In my opinion at 3,557 pieces each, the high volume discourages the speculators from gobbling up the watches and selling them at a high premium, and it's just enough for many Omega enthusiasts to buy and enjoy them at retail prices with discount to boot. Just my 2 cents there. 😀

Wait, are we talking about the special Trilogy set that includes the numbers on the dial? Because I seem to recall people hating that. In fact, wasn't there a forum member who went out of his way to order three separate trilogy watches to avoid the weird dial?

Haha right. It's the same numbering on the dial that justifies me buying another "version" of the Railmaster LE when all goes well in my business next year.

Agreed. I think Omega saw what happened with the Silver Snoopy and wanted to avoid that scenario happening again. Of course they basically went the complete opposite direction this time -- 11,000 watches! -- but it's certainly preferable to each watch going for 50% over retail on the secondary market.

I was a victim of this actually. I was next in line for the Snoopy and the one who got it just sold it for profit. It sucks and I hope Omega doesn't do it again.

Exactly my feelings. The trilogy edition is not as good as the individual watches. It wants to be , but it comes off as a gimmick, while the watches themselves are great editions

That's a great point and I was going to note in my post that it would have likely meant my missing out on one at MSRP since I dragged me feet. That said I just prefer it more limited. Being an owner that shouldn't be a surprise, but I think it's just a bit more special when there are fewer of them out there. Either way it won't change my enjoyment or take on the watch really. My first Speedy was a FOIS and they made more than double the amount of these if I'm not mistaken and yet I love that watch.
