Up for sale is this really cool vintage Omega Bumper Automatic from the mid 1940s. Beautiful blue-steeled center seconds hand, and chapter ring that are in remarkably good condition for a watch of this age.
Reference number inside the case back is 2438-2, and serial number (1017xxxx) is visible on the beautiful bumper movement.
I believe, but am not certain, that the caliber of the watch is 28.10 RA SC, 17 jewels.
I don't know much about vintage Omega, but as far as I can tell the dial, "syringe-style" radium hands, steel case and radium numerals appear to be entirely original, which is incredibly hard to find in great condition these days. The crown is unsigned -which is correct from the 1940s, from what I understand (but I am not certain).
I don't have a calipers for precise measurement, but case width is approximately 33mm (34mm?) or so including the slightly "extended" lugs (but without the crown) - as shown in photo.
Omega signature and logo are crisp on the face of the dial, which shows a lovely even and creamy patina and light spotting, as one would expect on a dial that is likely almost 75 years old.
The applied radium numerals appear to be un-tampered with and are very sharp and well-defined. They glow brightly under UV light, as shown. The playful font of the numerals is simply wonderful and adds hugely to the visual appeal of the watch.
I have only owned the watch for a brief period of time and am not aware of its prior service history. It appears to run smoothly when wound, but I have not put it on a timer. The movement looks clean, as if it might have been recently serviced (I'm not sure), and the bumper makes a solid and pleasing "thump" as it bounces back and forth between the springs. The crystal is in good condition, with a few light scratches that could likely be buffed out with care - I have not tried to do so.
Please note that watch comes on a very soft and chocolaty brown textured leather strap (18mm at the lugs) that has literally been worn less than 2 or 3 times (and does not include the other straps - alligator or ostrich - that appear in several pictures), with a generic buckle.
Please feel free to ask any questions, as I will not accept returns unless something in my description has been materially misrepresented. Watch is sold as-is. All photos are recent and were taken by me and constitute part of the description of the watch.
PayPal F/F, or cash wire accepted as payment.
