I've seen this watch in the flesh, it is stunning, I own a few of these 18K Constellations, they are beautiful watches. A couple of mine have 18K Swiss Made Milanese bracelet and this one is every bit as good as the Swiss ones, dare I say better. I prefer the deployment buckle and the clip buckles simply because they are easier to size for various wrists

I realise this is a pretty old thread but when I was posting about my Sif NART earlier which came on a Staib mesh bracelet, in searching on that I stumbled across this and thought I would share my gold Milanese. This is a solid 14K made by DS&S (Shackman and Sons) with hallmarks for 1978. It came to me on the Rolex Date model of similar vintage shown below (also 14K) and is branded with a Rolex crown. I assume this was a UK dealer fit option, rather like the Omega versions described by Tom Dick earlier. Its 19mm which is unusual, but obviously ideal for this watch:

And my rather more modern steel Staib with divers extension clasp on my Sif NART:

I just may use the Staib mesh on my 145.012-68 for a bit of variety...

Padders

Its was this thread that attracted me back to the forum, thanks for sharing. The DS&S bands are stunning, I love the fact new ones show up everyday, I picked up a 20mm basket weave DS&S in stainless steel a while back from ebay, never seen one before! Love yours and looks cracking with those end links! Beautiful

Thanks chaps

I have long loved the English made bracelets, not only because of their quality but also the way they look on watches

A few manufacturers in the UK made them for omega including JCS&S of Birmingham (I own a couple of their bands too which were in the 1960's catologues) but these DS&S ones really are superb

What I love about what STS do is that they use all of the equipment from the 1950's to hand make them using the same techniques, right down to the clasp

FASTI still make Milanese machines but they are now all automated, which removed a lot of the 'craftsmanship' for me. I think STS having such a capable goldsmith along with this originally tooling makes it quite special (they even have their own STS hallmark)!

I’ve been reading this thread again as I’ve just bought a DS&S ad noticed the above comment about STS having their own hallmark.

This is my inner nerd coming out as my family were jewellers, but @Tom Dick - do you happen to have a picture of the hallmark?

Old threads never die
I have a Milanese that is too short. Do you think these guys could help?

No doubt but you might need an extension link adding, give them a call and ask for Tony (who is the MD and bracelet expert) or Nick (who ops and technical director)

I picked this one up recently. It's the same steel Shackman model that @gemini4 showed a page ago. A couple of the locating tabs were missing (a common issue with these) meaning it could spin round occasionally but I had a jeweller laser weld the missing tabs back on. The slightly chewed end link seems to be the result of clumsy removal of a seized bar earlier in its life.

It came to me on a dog leg connie and was probably original UK dealer fit back in the sixties.

Nice SS version padders, I have a few including a rare 19mm that came as an optional extra on the Ed White, I’ve got a UK delivered watch with the original receipt, which includes ‘Milanese upgrade’.

the same tooling equipment i features in the start of this thread was used to manufacture the stainless versions
