Omega 14393 Constellation Calendar railtrack dial - Your opinion?

Hello everyone,

last week I spontaneously bought a 14393 Constellation Calendar with railtrack dial, which has just arrived.

My assessment:

- Case looks good, unpolished or only slightly polished
- Dial original (of course with patina) the writing looks good
- Glass original
- Crown original Omega but not correct for reference
- Hands I am not sure, but should fit

What is your opinion?

Best regards, Andreas

As you said, the crown is indeed not correct. The hands also seem to be relumed. The dial still has original lume on some markers.

Automatic winding framework seems to have been replaced, which was quite standard during a service.

Nice catch! I would consider changing the crown and maybe reluming the hands with a slightly more aged color.

I quite like the watch, and agree 100% with @Geezer. Finding the crown will take a little effort, and re-luming the hands should be no problem for a watchmaker. Both are worth the effort.

Looks good to me! Mine says hi (no date, but with correct scallow crown). An alternative would be the decagonal crown.

And below another one that I used to have, with the wrong crown

The correct dimensions for the crown can be found on Otto Frei. https://www.ofrei.com/page_147.html

If you find a vintage crown that looks right and has those dimensions, then you are good. I bought a thin scalloped crown like @Sa Calobra has on his first watch from @new_user to fit my 14710 (same size crown). I'm nor sure if he has more, but it is worth an ask.

Hello everyone,

Thank you very much for your opinion!

The lume on the hands doesn't bother me that much, I'll have it done during a revision.

I would actually prefer the original crown, as I like it better on the watch. I'll see if I can find one.

Out of curiosity - how is the model traded in steel? There are no watches for sale on ebay that correspond to this model and here in the marketplace there are mainly gold capped watches. Not because I want to sell them, but just out of interest.

Yours with a black dial are really great .

Best regards, Andreas

If someone posted one for sale here in OF, my gut (and several gold capped comps from recent years) tells me it would be for about 1500 USD, but probably a little less with relumed hands and replacement crown.

In general steel is preferred over gold capped, same for most other Connie's.
Your watch is very cool! Enjoy it!

Me too, but be aware the thin scalloped crown essential nullified the handwinding feature for me. I have no problem setting the time, but to wind I find it much easier to swing the watch gently back and forth to wind it with the automatic mechanism.

Switched to a BoR - I think it looks great on her too, although the strap also looked good 😉

Beautiful watch. One of the most attractive Connie’s imo.

Very nice. Congratulations! I personally have a slight preference for the leather strap here, which resonates really well with the patina!

Hello!

Just got mine 14381 back from service.
The crown is replaced with a new one, my watchmaker said it was no longer waterproof etc.

I consider myself one of the lucky ones who got the thin scalloped omega original crown as my replacement.

That said. I do still have my old original thin scalloped crown. I don’t know if it can be used? I know it’s not “safe” regarding waterproofing but if anybody is interested feel free to contact me.

Kind regards,
Johan
