Hi all, I’ve been looking for an 18k watch for some time and came across this watch last night. Looks pretty good to me overall but what seems odd is the movement looks brand new but the crown and the area around the crown look discolored. I would think if it was serviced that area would have been cleaned so not sure if that can be cleaned off or not. Let me know if you see any other issues. Price is under $1000. Thanks for your input.

Adding a closer photo of the crown area.

Hard to say if that movement has ever been serviced, so that’s something to factor in.

I’d say that since gold cleans up very well, at that price I don’t see much risk. As you said, good condition.

Thanks, no info on service history but the movement is super clean. Watch is sold as is.

Older crowns were gold capped. new crowns gold plated. Don't know if the crown is just worn or dirty

Hour hand. Can't tell if aged or shadow, but these would have been plated and can buy replacements is needed

Cleanliness of movement depends on location of owner. Dry, humid or a mix all have an effect on the overall condition of the movement and dial.

Going train bridge (left side) looks aged or again shadow. Aged. Could have been replaced due to something happening to the original one

Good price. Can't say. Haven't bought any watches in a long time and nothing on Ebay's completed auctions to get a price comparison.

Maybe some others will chime in

Thanks Don. I saw one sold on eBay for $1600 although may have been in better shape. It’s probably worth the risk so I may jump on it tonight.

    Seems like a no-brainer for under $1000.

What do you think is going on here? Does 18k mark up like that?

To close the thread, letting you know I passed. Ended up going for $1300. To many unknowns and didn’t love it enough to bid it up.
