Omega 121.001 Unusual "Tapisserie" Dial

Hi,

Just picked this up, was wondering if anyone could tell me more about this dial... looks to be machined and is reminiscent of the classic Royal Oak tapisserie dial. Has anyone seen one like it? Font looks good to me.

I know it is a reference 121.001 from 1962, with a calibre 269.

Any other info is appreciated!

Hey Nathan,

it’s a small world - I had that exact watch before you.

I own another example of this model (happy to post a better picture if you‘re interested, all I have available right now is a wristshot on the phone) and a friend of mine was so in love with it that I looked for another one online. The one you bought was the first one I could find in over a year so I was really happy when I won the auction.
It did, however, age in a very different way to mine. The dial is more silver-ish. Not to judge it better or worse, but the face my friend made when he saw it meant I had to return it. Seller was extremely nice and helpful about it, thankfully, as I‘m not really comfortable doing that tbh. I think what mislead me was that, knowing mine seems more golden, I thought that the one you bought was simply photographed in a bad light.
It does run well, though and winds smoothly.

Thanks for the info! Would love to see more pics. I am looking forward to getting this thing in person. I'll post pictures when I am able.

I was following this auction too, great to see someone on here has it. I thought the pics probably didn’t do the watch justice which put me off going all in for it. I’d be interested in seeing better pics of it.

Scrolled through my pictures for a while and found another shot of the two watches next to each other. Again, not a quality picture, but I’d say the lighting is a little more suitable to actually judge the look of it. Regarding the difference in color I’m not sure if it’s actually the aging, might have been different dials from the start. More pictures to follow towards the end of the week when I’m back home.

I’d also be curious what the experts here have to say regarding the dial, btw. 😀

On the right is the watch Nathan just bought. Lugs look sharper than on mine.

Very cool dial. I've been on here a few years now and that's the first time I've seen one. Anyone know what the Omega name for this style is?

As promised, here are a couple more pictures. I just focused on the dial, if anybody wants pictures from the case / crown etc. let me know.

It does seem to be very uncommon - and I do hope it’s genuine, but as of now I don’t have reason to believe anything else.

Definitely one of my favorites among my vintage Omegas. It’s certainly not the most expensive or technically complex one, but the dial in combination with the dark blue crocodile strap hasn’t failed to amaze me. There is, unfortunately, some dirt on the right hand part of the dial, especially around 2-5 o‘clock, but I don’t dare try to do anything about it.

It looks great, the eBay pics unfortunately didn’t highlight the dirt but I don’t think it detracts from the ‘waffle iron’ face too much. Your pics certainly make it look more attractive👍

Thank you - please note, though, that those pictures are from my personal one, not the watch @Nathan2008smith bought on eBay.

That's the most unusual spelling of "tapestry" I have ever seen. Did you have "rotisserie" on the mind? 😁

Also a good point. Would “guilloche dial” be more appropriate, perhaps?

I shouldn't think so, because that means "like interlaced ribbons".

Maybe "wide waffle"?

I’m a bit embarrassed now, that’ll teach me try multitasking! Sorry I didn’t read your post properly😟 I was watching TV at the same time. it’s a great looking face though, I wish I’d been braver with my budget now!(for the eBay one)
