I saw a 1039 bracelet come up and on the spur-of-the-moment, purchased it for my 67 SP. Here is the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Omega-1039-...234053247?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item258a4c687fPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network. Bracelet with postage cost right at $600.

I have that sort of - “oh-oh, did I make a mistake?" feeling. I would appreciate your thoughts. Did I do okay, or did I overpay?

In my opinion you did OK, it is not in the best condition but there are plenty of the spring links and the price was around what it would have reached in a straight auction

    Looks good on my phone.

I take it it's date stamped 70 and not 76 which is what it looks like to me :)

Getting the 516 endlinks is a plus as these aren't included in many auctions.

Four + six expansion links is correct (I think) and they look tight.

All in all something you can wear straight away.
May need to remove some links though.

There's a "how to" on old-omegas.com and it might be reposted here.

Seen far worse go for more.
Yours looks complete so you're not going to need to add bits later which always works out even more expensive.

    You did fine. Full bracelet.
If you are ok with '70 date.
    My '67 has a 2/68 clasp stamp

Now I did not think about the date on the bracelet! My watch is a 145.012 67 SP that was sold in 1968. So I need a 68 or earlier bracelet. That’s too bad!

No problem, just donate it to me ;)
I can use it for my very late 145.022-69.

It would fit your Speedy perfectly. How about a late Christmas present. When did you say your B-day was?

My -67 also has a 2-68 bracelet. Is it reasonable to presume the bracelets were attached to the heads at the dealerships when sold? Or is this another Speedmaster Mystery from the Production Date Vortex?

    Not a problem.
If you want a '68 bracelet, wait till
you find one and resell the other.
Just from watching market on these,
the post '68 seem to be worth a little
less. More 321 owners wanting a correct piece
    than 861 owners I guess

In those days the bracelets were a dealer option - you chose what you wanted when you bought. So your presumption is reasonable :)

Spiki, From reading the book, "A TIme Capsule", the 145.012 was sold as a Speedmaster with a leather strap. This confirms your statement that the bracelet was an option. It could have been bought at a later time. If so, my bracelet "could" have been bought in 1970 to add to the watch, which was purchased as a Christmas present in 1968.

Makes me feel a little better. Being a perfectionist does not make life easy!

Here are some pages from the UK 1963 and 1967 catalogues. Have a look at the 3rd picture in particular.

Thanks for the brochures. I like the second page also because I have both of these watches. Wish I had the brochure! Where could I get a brochure like that? It says exactly that one could buy a bracelet later. Awesome! Thanks alot, Spiki.

You've gone and done it now Spiki. :(
Thought we were doing a good job of picking up all the Omega brochures ourselves.
Just that I've been keeping quiet ;)
