Just got this lovely 18k Omega Constellation from 1968 and wondered what the OM stands for on the bottom of the Dial I've had it serviced and it keeps remarkably good time for its age appx 3 sec slow a day constant Any ideas ? Andy
Many thanks that makes sense it is very heavy but a delight to wear with smooth feel all round I don't know how much it could be worth today but I paid £2k for it
Yes, 18k stamped on both ends of built in Bracelet the whole cabozal weighs in at 142g I love it there is a clever double clasp system so you have to undo two safety catches
Sometimes only because of tired case clamps. Bend them straight back and they will lift the movement up a bit, no more touching.
Hello and thanks for your advice yes it was serviced and this was the photo previous to the service the watchmaker said that it looked like some silicon grease from the seal accidentally came into contact with the edge of the Rotor he also said that it was in superb condition with very little wear inside. I don't want to open the back but it was thoroughly cleaned
Does anyone know how much that dial would increase the value of the watch from let’s say a similar model but with a regular dial?
I believe I remember reading on the forums here that to get a replacement OM dial from Switzerland HQ would cost $1000. Of course you can find cheaper on other websites like chrono24. Right now there's a movement + dial + hands combo for $600.
Didn’t know that it’s still possible to buy vintage pieces from omega. That combo on C24 could be a steel if you find a nice case to pair it with.
Almost none An OM dial could also reduce value if you put it inside a non-gold case, makes it a 99.9% franken watch unless it's sigma marked etc.
For me it would add $100 - I also don't pursue regular gold watches anymore, yet an OM dial is on my to-buy list - It's a pretty cool detail to have Sad thing is loose OM dials are never pristine, they are yanked from cases by baboons, so they are quite scuffed - best case scenario you can see watermarks on them if you look closely I maybe saw 10 OM dials on eBay, yet none of them was worthy of buying as a replacement dial for a future project watch
They’ve been difficult to come by these days, especially in the U.S. I haven’t seen one at auction since Michael Collins’ BA145.022 sold in May.
There was one up for sale on TRF about a year ago or so. Can't remember the member's name but I would search through there.
