Old, old lady

Hi OF

I thought I would introduce the new member of my collection. She is a very old lady - but nevertheless I think she is a beautyful old lady.

I have always been fascinated in the history behind the watch, so when I got the chance to get my hands in THE WORLDS FIRST DIVING WATCH, I bought it - an Omega Marine CK 679. In May 1937 the Swiss Laboratory for Horology in Neuchâtel certified the Omega Marine as being able to withstand a pressure of 13.5 atmospheres, equivalent to a depth of water of 135 meters (445 feet). This was the first official certification of water pressure resistance of any watch, and it made the Omega Marine the first tested and certified diver’s watch.

This model was launched in 1932, but this specific watch is from June 1938.

Have a nice weekend everybody.

Thanks for all the positive feedback. I bought the watch with an original strap and an original Omega steel buckle. Unfortunately the strap is too short for my fat wrist😁 As soon as I get a new strap on the old lady, I will post some wristshots.

You all have a nice weekend😀

Congrats, beautiful! How was it intended to be worn for diving, on a leather strap?

Very nice and congratulations on the acquisition, and there is nothing “lady about that watch” it’s definitely manly and powerful.

I love to see pieces like this finding homes where they will be loved and cared for so another generation can enjoy them.

Very nice one in a very good condition.

By the way, could you post a picture of the Omega buckle? Is it a period or a modern one?

Here is a small british ad from 1937 :

Hi Old Ladies lovers.

I'm proud to present my babies back from Bienne (restoration more than servicing).

Two of them still having the original seal strap and buckle.

Hope you'll enjoy them.

Jofo
