This is my only 601. It's not hugely valuable despite being quite a rare variant, but it keeps time to under 5 secs per day and I like it lots.

I would love to but it looks very ruined plus the locking piece is missing
It probably is a bit weak, too. best not to use it.
I'm thinking, if one of your descendants decides it is best to put it in a cabinet of keepsakes, that old band would look awesome. Put some preservative oil on it.

Out of curiosity (again 😀) does anyone know how much it would have costed new back then?
Just to put things into perspective and compare prices to the actual situation.

This website is a great resource for vintage Omega literature. I looked through a few of the catalogues but can only find the .0041 Geneve in an Italian catalogue from 1968, the year of the watches launch. It lists prices in Italian Lira for the man wind and auto with and without date. It isn't your dial colour but would expect yours to be the same cost. Yours, the man wind without date is listed at 25,000 Lira. All you need do is work out the exchange between Italian Lira and your currency of choice in '68 and you are set!

EDIT: It looks like in 1968-69 the rate was L1500 to the GBP, meaning the 25K lira was then worth £16.

That's great, I happened to get to the same website about 2 hours ago and found that catalogue while doing some more research

Sorry for not updating you on the watch but I've been so busy with finals I almost forgot.
I took some photos of the finished watch and I assure you it looks even better irl

As you can see, it was very difficult to completely remove those major scratches on the case but overall I'm very satisfied with the result.

In the end I had a full service + new crystal + case polishing + new leather band for around 90 euros which is very good and the watch is in perfect operating and nearly perfect aesthetic conditions

Here is one together with another of my grandfather's watches, a Longines Calatrava 12.68z
