I picked this up at an antique auction for just under $50. The crystal was a mess and the gold capped case had glue all over it. It worked when I wound it and the wildly discoloured Birks Eternal dial caught my attention. A trip to the watchmaker, a new crystal and crown has resulted in an interesting piece. The movement number dates it to 1956.

Sorry that is Eterna not Eternal - auto correct on this tablet drives me nut as I can't turn it off for good....

Can't beat the price and definitely a unique look, and also would love to see the dial in better light. I am not a huge gold capped case person, but this is a steal and it was working at that price...well done

I'm not big on gold capped either but it is heavy capon the lugs and solid bezel. The dial is cool and is what makes the watch classic 50's design. Here are some natural light pics. Sorry about the quality but they are from the camera on my tablet.

Those pics aren't bad once I clicked on them and zoomed in. Like I said before nice pickup and I like the dial...the bad news is when it needs a service it will cost more than the watch

The case looks very sharp too...I like the dial and its patina. Big fan of the Eterna brand myself...

Very nice, yours has the same lugs and hands. Birks is Canada's version of Tiffany's and Eterna was their house brand for approx. 30 years.

I did the service and all it cost $200 Canadian so I have it all in for under $250 Canadian which is about $165 USD. Not bad for one that I will keep.

Nice, I like the "Petri dish" patina! And what a price, can't go wrong there :)

Nice Eterna, really undervalued watches with solid movements and great case finishes, esp. the gold plated ones I saw / touched are equal to Omega's quality. The freaky dial makes it a keeper!

I'm a fan of that dial - lovely! I have a Gruen with a slightly similar effect, but lower contrast.

Oh, and this Benrus date pointer, but it is not as attractive
