Old Elgin watch

Wasn't sure where to post this but the last of my brothers' grandparents died recently so the family is going through decades worth of stuff. Found a lot of cool stuff but this caught my eye.



This was in my grandfather's locker. He was a pilot in World War 2 flying P-47s and later was a forward air liaison embedded with the Army in the lead up to and following D-Day.

No crystal. We plan to have it serviced and stabilized. Amy suggestions are welcome.

The USN did not fly P47s, so I'd guess that he must have traded someone for it at some point if it came to him during his service. I'd ask your watchmaker if you can take some photos of the movement and inside of the caseback when he opens it. I belive it should have a 539 movement in it. These canteen watches can be very valuable and due to its age and design I'd keep it away from water.
