so that's a "known" thing? like the article posted about the ones in the US? I'm just curious to know if there's a link or something describing this, or is it just a theory or anecdotal? Not challenging the idea, it sounds reasonable, just wondering if there's some info I could peruse to understand it a little better.

I got that info from my watchmaker as I asked him if he will service the watch. (before I took it back)

I think it's explainable to be a "known" thing since grey market products are not a unique or unknown phenomenon. But official or original documentation would rarely if ever be made public, unless there're legal cases involved.
