Today is the big day that Newman’s Newman is getting auctioned. Just wondering what everyone thinks the hammer price will be!

My guess: 7.7 Million USD

$11,750,000. Who is counting at that stage anyway? There is too much prestige and ego on the line for it not to get out of hand. Like, "Gollum and the ring" out of hand.

I suppose it’s safe for me to put a bid of 1 million in... right?

Later today...

"Holy 🤬 guys everyone chickened out and now I owe Phillips $1 million what do I do?!"

It's "Price Is Right" rules. Closest to it without going over. I'll take 7.71mil Drew! 😉

(Previous record for a Rolex was for the Bai Dai for 5mil in May.)

If Paul Newman’s Paul Newman is only worth one million dollars I think I'd be very nervous owning any other Paul Newman or high value watch, like a 2915...

Is it a portion or a majority of the proceeds that will be going to charity? Either way, it can only help to push the price higher. Probably higher than anything seen before.

I hate to dredge up that old cliche of "a perfect storm", ...but it seems about right: The most famous and iconic watch of a famously charitable and iconic man, ...the sale of which will in itself help to support charity. Oh, and under the hammer just a few days after the Dow soared past 23,000.

High times. Strap in.🍿

1mm i don't think is a #

5mm also seems low. there's too much money in the world

i think it goes for very high single digit millions. . say 8.5mm hammer . . .either to rolex for a museum or a hollywood type or tech billionaire, not a watch guy

remember kim kardashian is walking around with Jackie O's cartier tank which she paid 400k for. . .

Good point. You would think Rolex would've drop money on it, to preserve and put it in the museum.

i think another way to think about it is . . .what's the publicity worth to them if they buy it for 10mm bucks. i'm guessing 10x that at least. . .

"They" tried to make 10mm a fait accompli. I guess we'll find out if it worked...

this is so true. i never would have thought 10mm until some guy was quoted in an early article saying it. . now it feels like if it goes for 7 it will be "disappointing". and aurel never ever disappoints. . .

That would mean Rolex cared about vintage...they clearly care about selling new watches

you could say the same about Patek and they seem to embrace it as a marketing strategy
