Off to Shanghai

Starting the long trek to Shanghai, China.

Wake up at 4:30AM to catch a 6AM flight to San Francisco where I will wait 5 hours before meeting with my crew 1 1/2 hours before departure for preflight briefing.

Always take the time for a sweet goodbye for “Claire Bear” after my lovely wife drops me at the airport. Then I settle in for the 1:40 flight to SFO. Taking along my trusty Omega Aqua Tera Worldtimer. This piece works so well for my job.

I got a little behind in my updates so I will piece it all together now to catch you up. Starting my day by getting ready to meet the crew for preflight briefing. We carry 4 pilots, myself as the Captain and 3 First Officers. More about this later.

Once we preflight to talk about weather, routing, possible volcanic activity, turbulence forecasts, space weather, satellite jamming and spoofing events, notice to airman regarding airport facilities etc as well as aircraft maintenance status we head out to the aircraft for more preflight checks, briefings with the Flight Attendants, maintenance personnel, dispatch, fueling and customer service.

This particular flight was scheduled for 12 hours and 6 minutes. Anything over 12 hours requires two additional pilots so 4 pilots total.

About 1/2 hour into the flight the two relief pilots will go to the bunk room to rest for a little over 5 hours and then relieve myself and the First Officer for our 5 hour break. All for pilots are on the flight deck for the last hour of flight and landing.
