Well, the title says it all I guess - I know there are quite a few car racing enthusiasts among us here. Anyone of you at the 24h race on the Nordschleife this weekend?

~200k people there so it sure won’t be easy to meet up but I’m curious regardless. I’m lucky as it’s only a 1.5h drive for me, so I’ll definitely show up on Saturday and probably stay for half the night or so.

A shot from dusk in 2018, albeit taken with a shitty phone camera:

I wish! One day...
Looks like you had a decent spot in '18.
That can be an exciting section...for lack of a better word.
How walkable is it for spectators?

Well, let me know if you ever make it! The experience is beyond words.

I’d say it’s super “walkable” - but that doesn’t mean easy-access. There are paths along most parts of the track and if you’re fit(ish) it’s awesome to walk for half an hour or so along the track, stop and watch, and keep going. I usually cover 15+ miles on a visit but it’s not like you need hiking gear.

Also, every ticket means access to the pits until right before the race and to the grandstands along the GP circuit, which is part of the course too. I usually start with a stroll around the pits, then get to the main grandstands at the start/finish straight for the start itself - after all, it’s the only time you see all GT3s in one spot and the sheer noise is incredible. After a while I drive to Brünnchen or some part of the track and then just move around from there on foot. There’s food and friendly people everywhere, you can get cold beer from the crazy folks who camp there for the week and food trucks are easily found, too. With a smile and maybe a small donation it’s also easy to pick up a Bratwurst here and there. Everybody is helpful, the whole vibe is beautiful.

Appreciate the insight! You more or less answered my pretty vague question about getting around on foot!
I imagine it to be a lot like the 24 hours of Daytona or 12 hours of Sebring. At least with the vibe of the attendees.
Its really just a big party that happens to have a race at some point during the weekend!
My absolute dream is to do European delivery of a 911 of some flavor, and time it as such to be able to do a TF day.

To you, too: Let me know when it ever comes to it and I’d be happy to show you what I know of the track/event. 😀
Will try my best with some pics / a little report

Seconding that photos / a little report would be greatly appreciated by those of us that wish we could be there! I've always wanted to be able to see this race in person!

Wife’s license plate is GRELL0.

Appropriately, she‘s daily‘ing a GT3RS in neon green and yellow with full Manthey sticker kit? 😁

Step 1 for the trip: transport. The roads leading up to the Nordschleife are windy and there isn’t much space for parking. This little fella seems pretty much perfect for the job:

Just arrived and there are some dark clouds in the sky…

For those who are wondering: Nothing prebooked, 30min delay due to traffic, 25min walk from the parking lot.

We‘re racing! And I even found some OF company. Wrist shot to follow later. 😁

Those watching on TV will have just seen something not seen in decades. One of the drivers, Georg Griesemann? had a vintage inspired helmet with Marlboro sponsorship.
