Odd question to Rolex Explorer 1 owners

    Hello,

I'm hesitating between the 36 mm and the 39 mm Explorer 1. I love the 36 mm design over the 39 mm.

My concern is my wrist size, which is 7.5 inches. I do have smaller watches, for instance today sporting a Zenith Defy from 1969 that has an octagonal case measures at 37 mm without the crown.

Would you say it compares similarly how it wears on the wrist to the 114270?

If I have to go the 39 mm way I might wait and save up for a 16570 or 14060 rather.

Thanks in advance for weighing in with your inputs.

PS: sorry for posting a non-Rolex photo

    Have you tried both on?

This is one of those that you really need to decide for yourself... Off to the shops with you! ;)

Thanks @tyrantlizardrex - actually in Hungary not many you can find in the shops. Especially that now these are discontinued.

Same challenges everywhere now I think... A good compromise to try the sizes would be the 36/39mm modern oyster... Not perfect, but close. :)

yea I might do that, do they have the same band size at 20 mm, though? I think that plays a huge part how these watches wear on the wrist.

With a 7.5 wrist size the 39mm should be perfect. The 36mm will feel small. If I were you I would wait for the upgraded version of the 214270 to come out and get that one. It always bothered me that the 14270 and the current 214270 have no lume in the 3, 6, and 9. I think Rolex really got it right with this year's updated Explorer I.

I have similar wrist size and the 39 works well. I have a 36 mm and it does feel small. My wife does not line the 36 on my wrist but likes the 39....of course it may be so she can wear the 36.

Also would recommend waiting for the new model. Lune 3 6 9 and larger sized hands.

It does. I have a 1016 Explorer and it looks like a fitness tracker because the strap is wide. I wear mine on a bund strap.

About the same as now $6400 US Here you have some pics. It seems to me like you're not familiar at all with the Explorer models so i would recommend some research before buying. The current 39mm has a smaller minute hand and the numerals are applied metal instead of luminous. also adding a pic for you to compare (the bottom pic). Same price.

Thanks, actually I'm familiar with the model, but not with the 214270.

Reason? I don't like the design of the dial compared to the 114270/14270 is unbalanced, also not a fan of the shorter hands.

However all of these little details seems to be nicely revised, though I still don't like the Rolex rehaut.

Yeah, definitely revised. I have the 214270 and I, although I love the applied numerals I do wish the hands where more balanced. Regarding the rehaut I have a couple of watches with it and it never bothers me....I never really see it unless looking for it. I think people are mostly turned off by it by seeing the pictures which of course, highlight details like his.

I think you will be really happy with the new 214270. Should check all the boxes for you.

It's pointless to ask what other people think because only you and the watch on your wrist can tell you if it feels right. I have a 7.5 wrist as well, and a 214270 Explorer. I Find the short hands complaint to be funny, as it's just a style that Rolex has used on many watches, even some Submariners. I love the watch, and like it even more now since so many WIS types think it was flawed. As for case size, I also have a 36mm Turn-O-Graph that fits fine, as does my 42mm Explorer II. All these watches are designed for a broad variety of wrists and tastes. Just try you candidates on, and I think you' know pretty quickly what suits you best. Happy hunting!

    here's what to expect from a 36mm Explorer on a 17cm wrist ...

I find it wears actually pretty big, due to the squarish/boxy new case design ...

    cheers, Al

    ps: visit to Becs ?

@al128 : It seems your Explorer does not have the Explorer text on the dial? Or are my eyes playing tricks on me?
