Odd Polerouter Caseback

Hi everyone,

I recently picked up this Polerouter that looked to be in decent shape. Upon arrival I noticed the caseback is not the traditional style and has no way of unscrewing. I tried prying at it with a case knife but no luck either. Any ideas gents?

Photos of the front, side and another one of the back would be appreciated.

Apologies. Hopefully these are more clear. Appreciate the help!

Use a sticky rubber ball to press on the back and unscrew. Still looks like a screwback with markings worn/polished off.

Crown is a replacement, and apart from some case pitting it looks good, especially with the black dial.

Don’t these backs usually have some hexagonal raised portions to grab with a case back opener? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one that’s entirely flat before. I could be wrong though! Thanks for the advice, I’ll give it a go.

Usually yes, though the original may have been lost. If it still has the UG branding inside then that's all good 👍

Rubber ball or one of these:

If that doesn't get anywhere I believe some people have superglued a big nut to the caseback and then used chemicals to subsequently remove the residue. Haven't done it myself but I'm sure Google will pull up some guidance. In a sense you don't have much to lose as it's clearly not the original.

That case back would have to be ground significantly to look like that and screwing it on in that state would mean that it would either remain losely fitted or there would be marks on case back or sider due to tools used to tighten. Regardkess, althiugh the watch looks good, the case back let's it down ... take it to you watch maker and get him to remove it. You would be better off keeping an eye out for a replacement on the bay.

agree with you entirely. It’s difficult to find someone only selling a back. Even a complete case is rare which surprises me since I assume a lot of people scrap the gold plated models for the movements?

either way I think the dial is what makes this watch half decent so I could try to fit a correct full case to transfer the watch. I’m more interested in looking at the movement to make sure everything is ok in there.

im not convinced it is a UG front case either - gold capped all seem to have the steel exposed on the reverse side (the capping is only on the front and sides).

Agree 😉 Probably a gold plated case

as long as the dial, movement, hands are original I could at least source a new case.

Yeah... I really wanted it to work out but at this point only a full case replacement would work out.

The whole case will be hard to find. By the time you add the crown, you may as well wait for the right one to turn up ...
