By definition, having spent medical supplies in your food is not good

Also, about those Indian restaurants with the Christmas lights, on 1st Ave by Curry Row: Supposedly one is the best Indian restaurant in the city, while the other one will more likely than not cause gastrointestinal issues. I forget which one is which though

But many Asian American New Yorkers, together with their best restaurants, have moved to the outer boroughs and suburbia. I would never bother to go into Manhattan for Indian food these days. Some of the best Indian food can be found in Edison, NJ. The Chinese Americans are the exception. Though they have long since moved to the outer boroughs, especially Sunnyside and Flushing in Queens, which have some of the best Chinese restaurants, and to the NY and NJ suburbs, they continue to return to Chinatown to shop (and eat).

Actually 4 Bangla-Indian restaurants on that spot (2 below the 2 shown). I would not describe the food from any of them special but you go for the decor.

I've never tried any Indian restaurants in Edison but it probably makes sense because of the Indian population that has grown there. I have some (non indian) cousins there.

As mentioned, the stretch from Sunnyside to Broadway along Roosevelt also has interesting eats, though the view is far from appetizing. I think the worse the ambiance, the better the ethnic food is.

Best Indian food I've had outside of India was in the UK, which totally makes sense.

Two insightful comments. Clearly you are not an Indian food n00b. Another trick -- neighborhoods that have Indian (or Chinese, or Korean, or Vietnamese) grocery stores are usually the ones to look for those restaurants. Another tip -- though NYC is not especially known for its Mexican restaurants (unlike Chicago, for example) there are some very good and authentic ones just north of the city border in Yonkers.
With all this restaurant info I think I've earned a good tip on a vintage Omega selling at a steal price.

Oh, I know - I used to live three blocks away. Always funny to see the dudes hawking the rsstaurant almost get into fistfights whenever people walked up the stairs!

You've lost the right to vintage Omega tips, by suggesting anyone ever venture to Yonkers. Are you trying to get him killed?

Sure, he might get killed, but only after having some of the best pollo mole poblano on the east coast!

Well, Canal Street, NY Chinatown's main drag, is famous for shops offering $5 Chinese Rolexes. And your choice of Hoboken, birthplace of Frank Sinatra, is used as a setting for many movies due to its classic old-fashioned look. But Bayonne? Tourists aren't expected, or even necessarily welcome. I could tell you stories. Let's just say, if you're not a native but are nevertheless wandering around there, the police notice. So admire the bridge, an architectural marvel, at your own peril. No Omega boutiques that I know of.
Pointing out the deficiencies in the Omegaforums tour misses the whole point of satire. As many of us grew up in NYC, your pontificating is unnecessary.

My pontificating was meant in fun as well. I'm aware nobody cares about Bayonne.😀

I don't know about Mexican, but there are some awesome and affordable Peruvian restaurants north of Yonkers in New Rochelle. Lineas de Nasca I used to frequent.

There's kid friendly stuff in NYC? I figured you either left the punks home or sealed them in 17 layers of bubble wrap for their protection and hoped for the best.

Hey now, that's technically NJ, isn't it?
Darn right it is. [emoji6]

I'm gaining weight just reading this thread. I should have stopped with the photo of Bayonne at sunset.

I think you're thinking of Elizabeth - Newark is more of your standard sh🤬tty run-down city

Also, to continue the whole "good food in bad places" thing - there are/used to be a couple of Brazilian rodizios in Newark that would blow your mind. Though I think most of the good ones have gone to Jersey City probably

I usually only cross the GWB every few months to visit my fulfillment center, so good rodizios in NJ is new to me. Outside Manhattan I haven't found any reliably good Brazilian steakhouse outside the chain establishments. This and the lack of good Hawaiian places in queens and Westchester County is kinda baffling.

Check out Delicias de Minas in Newark. The Minas Gerais region is sort of the Texas of Brazil, and this is very informal, rural style. The meat is carved to order and you pay for it by weight. The rest is an all you can eat buffet, then you can buy superb desserts. I've gained ten pounds just thinking about it.
But enough of this NY area stuff. What about inside tips for SF? London?
