Ok... So My wife and I have been to NYC over a dozen times, and it really feels like a second home to us... we've figured out where the Omega boutique is located...(always exactly 3 steps out of the hotel into the private car Omega sends)...
The question no one is asking........Omega sends a car for you? I need to hang out with your family. 😁

Next time you consider buying at a boutique, keep in my mind you are paying for someone else's perks...

But is the car service available to anyone, or just to those picking up a purchase? For a purchaser, that's maybe a $20-$30 perk. Pretty standard stuff for luxury goods dealers, and probably much less expensive than other marketing tools they use..

Not when it comes to property taxes for homeowners, my friend. Very much subsidized by the large commercial tax base.

True. But a lot of places have subsidized tax bases. Our tourism taxes mean that we have zero state or local income taxes in Florida. Same is true in Nevada. Just a trade-off.

The real cost of living problem is the high price of everything else, from groceries to gasoline to auto insurance to you name it.
Any why do you think that is?😉

I always tell people that NYC and other large US cities have their own currency that trades at a discount to the dollars used everywhere else.

It just looks the same. 😁

Good News Superdoc!! , OmegaForums has arranged a special family treat 👍

Tell Doc what we have Lou,

"Well Steve, OmegaForums has gone all out.
During your stay in NY Doc, you and the entire family will be treated to a tour of historic, that's right, BAYONNE, NJ.
You will be picked-up by the special OmegaForums car sent to meet you on Washington St in the posh downtown Hoboken shopping district, a mere 18,754 steps from you hotel, not counting the ferry ride.

From there it's off to Bayonne, often noted as one of the few places in the harbor where downtown Manhattan is visible only one or two days per year. Along the way you'll stop to check several pawn shops and check cashing establishments for freshly made Omega replicas. Who knows we could get lucky 🙄🙄

For lunch the family family will be our guest at famous Nathan's hotdogs, with saurkraut !! "

That's right Superdoc, it's all on us, because you've earned it 😎

Well I am actually in NYC this weekend, we booked part of Rye Castle (which is a sorta-castle overlooking a golf course overlooking the ocean) for my dear old mum's birthday.

If you want to avoid the touristy NYC, you got to get out of midtown and Broadway. Here are some of my old haunts:

As for places to go, Momofuku ramen joint at around 1st and 10th.

There is a Tapas joint right in front of it that has flamenco dancers once a week.

Now that I mention it, a stroll down St Marks is pretty cool. Would have been cooler if they didn't close down the automat.

Further down 1st avenue is a pair of Bangladeshi restaurants, notable for the crazy lighting. I swear the place is a fire hazard but it's a must visit:

For the kids, there's the Little Red Lighthouse, situated beneath George Washington Bridge. Interesting story around it. There is also the children's book about it.

A bit hokey, but I've gone on a family dinner cruise around Manhattan island. Its a good way to be acquainted with the geography

A bit more touristy is walking the High Line, which is a park converted from an abandoned rail line:

Finally, no matter how touristy it may seem, Central Park is a great family place. Your kids can go remote control sailboating in the pond

Hoboken has become yuppie central. Washington St. is the main drag, but the leafy side streets with nice old brownstones are prettier. Lots of very good, hip restaurants, very crowded on weekends. Lots of bars. Lots of yuppie gyms. A park by the river. Stevens Institute of Technology, a highly regarded scientific research university with a nice little campus. An historic train station and ferry terminal that was just the site of a massive train wreck. Not too much else. Bayonne is a place to leave from on cruises. An insular town with little for visitors except the Bayonne Bridge to Staten Island, for many years the world's longest steel arch suspension bridge, a meter or so longer than the one in Sydney (just visible at the top left of your photo). Nathan's on Coney Island isn't what it once was, I'd stick with admiring vintage photos.

Well, Canal Street, NY Chinatown's main drag, is famous for shops offering $5 Chinese Rolexes. And your choice of Hoboken, birthplace of Frank Sinatra, is used as a setting for many movies due to its classic old-fashioned look. But Bayonne? Tourists aren't expected, or even necessarily welcome. I could tell you stories. Let's just say, if you're not a native but are nevertheless wandering around there, the police notice. So admire the bridge, an architectural marvel, at your own peril. No Omega boutiques that I know of.

I once had late night Chinese at Hop Kee in Chinatown. One of the entrees had a used band aid mixed in.

Did they charge you extra?
Nope, but they took the plate out and returned the exact same plate sans band aid

Clearly a Chinatown n00b. If he picked out a fake Rolex on Canal Street, it would probably have a service dial, an overpolished case and incorrect hands.
