I'm debating weather to have my speedmaster serviced and a new crystal put on it or just put it back in my drawer for another 20 years. I would like to wear it most of the time but I don't want it to get damaged wearing it, even being careful you just don't know what will happen.

Where's the debate? Get it serviced and ready to go and wear it and enjoy it!

Happy watches are worn on your wrist and tell time.

Sad watches get stuffed in a drawer for decades and never see the light of day.

    End of debate for me.

Well I do have many sad watches ::facepalm2:: but OP's watch should be a happy watch!

And if you want to hide it in a draw just to make money, sell it and go and buy some gold or diamonds with the cash instead.

That is really not my intent, just to tuck it away to make money.

So I'd say wear it and enjoy it. Yes there's a risk you might ding it. But then, you might break your leg tomorrow. That's no reason not to leave the house...

On a side note, how have you lasted 39 posts without being assigned an avatar? I've done one or two myself including an avatar message, but I'm small potatoes compared to Ashley / dsio.

The 145.022-68 isn't rare, its a great daily wear watch but its not going to ever shoot up in value, you're way better off just wearing it

I didn't think it was rare, but I was surprised to see what they are going for. I never had any idea that they sell for the prices I've seen. This is just a watch that was given to me new back in 1969.

On ebay I've seen anywhere from 1,600.00 to as high as 2,900.00

Really its around the 1800-2200 range most likely, they're expected to have some wear and its not going to impact it greatly. They're a very strong watch

I think you are spot on, on the prices. I don't know if having the 1039 bracelet kicks it up higher or not.

It does a little but if that part concerns you, its easy to throw it on a leather strap

I just put a 1171 on it and put the 1039 in my drawer.
