Not For Watch Collectors?

A customer ordered two magnetic money clips.

Some folks still do carry cash.

I checked my supplies for magnets and was out. I bought some at Michaels and Walmart. They were too weak.

I told the client to get her clips on Amazon, having already spent more time and money than I wanted to.

She returned a few weeks later with magnets from Lee Valley (a cool Canadian Woodworking/Gardening store).

The magnets were powerful. I took off my watch to make the clips. My watch was the first First Omega in Space.

Question 1:
Was removing the watch to work with magnets necessary?

The clips…

The lady and her husband - the intended recipient - are pleased with the clips. She gave me the extra magnets, so I made my own clip.

Question 2:
These are probably not compatible with my old watches (right?) and mine will stay in the shop, sort of a magnetic cash register that can stick to an old machine, out of sight of course.

Me and my baseball gloves…

If your clients are wanting money clips, at least you know they have the ability to pay for the order 😉.

It'll be interesting to hear what folks think about your watch’s proximity to the magnets. Maybe magnet day at the leather shop is also pocket watch day?

I think removing your watch was wise.

It probably wasn't needed but not an unreasonable thing to do while working with magnets. I'm always careful not to put my watch (or wallet) near my cell phone or magnet cover on my tablet. Those neodymium magnets are strong.
