Hi all,

New here so hi 馃榾
Just purchased a new old stock 2531.80 question is do I dare get it sized and actually wear it?
notice the warranty card wasn't registered until 2012 (although as an 8107**** serial I'm guessing its a 2005/6 watch) so assume it sat in stores for a few years before its first owner bought it and never wore it / had it sized!
Love it and want to wear it but worried how much I may devalue it?! to be fair I wanted one about 15 years ago and couldn't afford it but if I had have bought a new one back then I would have worn it obviously so maybe I just get over it and get it on my wrist? 馃槈

Thanks all
Ben

Surely you haven't bought it just to look at? Such a shame not to make the most out of it and show it off! Just my opinion but I'd be putting it straight on my wrist and enjoy wearing it as much as possible. Sounds like you've wanted one for a long time and put and a lot of time and work to enable you to be in the place where you can afford it!!
Get its sized up and on your wrist!

To be honest no I didn't buy it just to look at but when it arrived I started to wonder, especially as its made it 11 or 12 years without being used 馃槈

Wear it. I never saw a Brinks truck full of watches following a hearse. Great find, by the way!

Just wear it. You won't devalue it. New parts are readily available, so anyone can bring a 2531.80 back to minty condition.

Its dicounted model so I would not wear it. Example as yours I would stash it and forgot it just as it was forgoten befor it came to you.

You can get used everday for not such a huge price, but NOS you can not get it easily.

Love those blue Seamasters I've had two myself. Where did you get it from ?

If you've got a good discount on it's the natural cushion the blow of any depreciation you might get on it.

You're not going to affect the value that much by wearing it and getting a few marks on it. Just wear it and enjoy it.

Depends on how much of a premium you paid to have a NOS example. I have a NOS full set speedy that is 30 years old that I see as an investment. I have another one that I wear.

So what is the point of buying it? The only point of buying a watch is to wear it. It's not like it's a super rare model or difficult to get parts for. When it is serviced, if done by Omega, it will come back looking like it came out of the box anyway.
Put it on and enjoy it 馃榾

It's not worth a premium as a NOS minter over a recently serviced one IMO as they are too recent and too common. Wear it and enjoy it and if you want it put back to mint then get it serviced. As you say it is now circa 10 years since it was last opened, the red dot tells us that so it is way overdue a service and likely running like a dog in any case. I would rather a healthy watch than a neglected minter.

Booked in for Tuesday to get it checked and sized 馃榾
I probably paid approx 拢200 more maybe less, for this than a lightly used one, it came from a shop in Italy (I'm in the UK though)
Cheers for all the comments. Don't overly agree with the last one but all of the rest 馃槈
Why would it be "running like a dog" and "well overdue a service" if its sat in a box unused / not running and therefore had no wear on the movement?

Cheers all
Ben

I think that will be down to the lubricant drying up

I may have been abrupt but I stand by my points above. Watches like this typically need servicing every 5-7 years regardless of whether they are being used as the lubricating oils dry out. Put it on a timing machine and don't be surprised if the amplitude is low and the rate is off. I will let someone more qualified than I to add value here. Perhaps @Archer who is our resident friendly authorised repairer might be persuaded to comment.

Ps I have a mint 2531 myself so wasn't casting any negative aspersions on your choice, it's a great watch!
