Every year, I wait excitedly to see what Nomos puts out (I enjoy pretty much their entire range). And they have continued to impress me. This year, though... WTF is this? And 41mm. .
Close the date aperture to one or none, scrap the blue arch, and bring it down to 38.5mm and it would have been great. Just too much going on for me to love it and it will wear massive. Cool new movements though
I can just about wear their 35mm (36mm?) watches. This will, indeed, look massive. It has a certain "bathroom scales" vibe to it.
Wow a hard to read 3 hander... it can be done!!! Seriously they broke new ground! How can you make a simple 3 hander that hard to read? They have won!!! Simple and busy!!! It’s a miracle of bad design!!! I assume that’s what they where going for right? The design brief had to be “ bauhus but missing the whole point of bauhaus. “
I'm not sure what they had been smoking when they decided to go forward with the Autobahn design. I have a Metro 39 Neomatik Midnight Blue [0] and that's just gorgeous. This new line is horrible by comparison. I do like, however, the redesigned date on the Tangente [1], though the size might put some people off. I was pretty disappointed as well, especially since they seem to be making a bigger push into the neomatic models. IF only they would make an in house, hand wound, column wheel chronograph to their (usual) aesthetic. That would presumably be very, very good.
They do look microbrandish, but both are long established. I suppose it is acceptable for larger companies to try to cater for more than one social sector.
Nomos has kind of painted themselves into a corner with the Bauhaus minimalistic style. Here it looks like they tried to expand upon it, but it doesn’t work as they are known for a “less is more” design and this is too busy. Maybe they need to expand a collection line to break out into other styles.
Yeah, this really isn't my cup of tea. I'd love to have a basic Nomos, but this is pretty much a giant miss. Looks like a 70s yachting watch, but not in a good way.
