....... how addictive vintage watches are. I'm spending ever more time on auction sites admiring all the things I like but can't afford, or am not allowed to buy 🤔

On that theme, I found the following connie at an auction house. Looks fairly legit and to my untrained eye (getting better) and original? Downside is no service history.

It's a bit rich for me at £750 + auction fees (27.54%), but thought others with deeper pockets might appreciate it? 👍

I hear ya, I brought 3 Connie's last year and don't see it stopping anytime soon, crosshair next on the list.......
The one you posted looks legit, although I'm no expert, I'd say £750 is probably ok for this but without the auction fees.

On the topic of warning, maybe don't get watches polished unless it's for reversing a previous intentional mistreatment and not day to day wear, the watch you posted about was a good looking watch originally

Now every time you post about a watch I'm worried it'll dim another star

Edit: I actually forgot about the missing bezel, but still, the caseback polishing etc. was worrisome 😀

Sorry, are you referring to my refinished Connie? Normally I'd agree on the polishing, but I had it polished for two reasons. Firstly to match the newly crafted bezel and secondly to remove the deep scratch on the case back as shown in pics.

Yeah I was referring to that, for that watch it might be justified indeed as you're in a savior position, but I'd argue tumbling the new bezel to match the existing wear on the watch could be an option too

Good to hear the new watches aren't getting polished, good luck with the journey

I remember those days, and they aren’t too far in the past (or totally gone yet, to be honest).

Rule 1, create a separate account for watch acquisitions and one for the servicing costs for the ones you love

Rule 2, never go into debt for a watch

Rule 3, no, you don’t need a larger watch box

Rule 4, refer back to rule 2 😉

Rule 5, enjoy the research and the banter on OF

Rule 6, refer back to rule 3

it’s very rare to find watches at auction that do have a service history but if you know what you are looking at it is a good place to find honest watches.

Connie prices are creeping up I’m afraid for decent examples and you’re going to dig deep if you want a good one.
