Thanks for your helpful response. I am clearly mistaken, and promise to put my magnifying glass at the back of the drawer.

I suggest that we both create a club for the visually impaired. You are President and I will gladly do the first chairman or vice versa. More members can surely be found, if we both keep our eyes open... 馃榿

Thank you, thank you OF. So much learning. BTW I bought the NN Connie in question - but not for under a grand. I don't think they go any more for under a grand. Also, any thoughts on replacing the case back with a mint or unpolished example - if ever such a thing can be found. Pretty darn sure, NOS parts will be nigh impossible to find. Any specific pointers on preferred service locations in the NYC area for this beauty?

I suspect an inscription's been milled out. Might be best to live with it as is, or if you can't, get the caseback repolished to something like its original appearance. At least it's original to this watch, and trying to find a replacement is just setting yourself up for a shipload of grief.
