·I had two no. 6 end-links on a 7912 bracelet that were hardly compatible; one was practically mint, the other spent its life getting into beer-infused fistfights at the local pub:
Since the rest of the bracelet was in decent shape, I decided to at least try to see if I could bring the bedraggled one a bit closer to its brethren. I have to admit, at the beginning, it kind of looked hopeless.
I needed to get the deep gouges down to an acceptable appearance without removing too much material. So I got out the sanding sticks and went at it until the scratches were minimized. Then I went back up in 200 grit jumps until I hit 12,000, and finished it with a hit of crème polish. Not perfect, but looks like it did a stint in rehab:
I’ll put the better one at the 6:00 position, and the other at 12:00. But at least I won’t cringe when I look at it.
