I had two no. 6 end-links on a 7912 bracelet that were hardly compatible; one was practically mint, the other spent its life getting into beer-infused fistfights at the local pub:

Since the rest of the bracelet was in decent shape, I decided to at least try to see if I could bring the bedraggled one a bit closer to its brethren. I have to admit, at the beginning, it kind of looked hopeless.

I needed to get the deep gouges down to an acceptable appearance without removing too much material. So I got out the sanding sticks and went at it until the scratches were minimized. Then I went back up in 200 grit jumps until I hit 12,000, and finished it with a hit of crème polish. Not perfect, but looks like it did a stint in rehab:

I’ll put the better one at the 6:00 position, and the other at 12:00. But at least I won’t cringe when I look at it.

Good work. I generally notice the 6:00 link more so I put my scarred ones on top. Never seem to get 2 great vintage endlinks …. maybe you should offer this as a service!!!

Well done! Looks like a nice part-time gig when you retire. You are getting a little long in the tooth 😉

@M'Bob Nice. Question, did you first press it/tap it to try to press out any kinks? If so, what did you do? I ask because every time I try to straighten ou a bend I seem to make it worse.

Yes, sharp eye. It was actually quite bent up. I had to use jewelers tool to stabilize one section while I bent the other. Using one tool just didn’t seem to work.
