I have now lost count, of the number of apparently reputable 'rising stars'..... who have crashed & burnt, due to their greed, or their stupidity, or both

Usually they try to ingratiate themselves initially,..... by seeing which way the wind is blowing,.... before committing an opinion

Shallow knowledge, and 'bugger all' integrity

“If you wait by the river long enough, the bodies of the scammers will float by.”

Apologies to Sun Tzu

He taught me that “priced to sell” doesn’t mean what I think it means.
Curious to know at what price did they actual sold for ... 🤨

OMG - this fellow contacted me via PM and it didn't take long to hear the little bird yelling in my ear. GET AWAY! Very thankful to the moderators that take time to scoop out this type of crap.
If ever I think something is not right, how would I report or ask about another OF member?

Click on OPTION then REPORT from that drop down menu will allow you to report posts out here in public or PMs that the mod team needs to see.

I left a seller review for him which was positive. As it reflected my experience with him.

I posted my ST for sale. He agreed to the price.
He sent over the funds quickly. Even covered the label for shipping and insurance.
Communicated with me daily, which was welcomed.

At the offset he identified himself as a dealer on the Forum. I checked his profile here, and it all seemed to check out also.

So I was surprised to read about his expulsion from here.

Did he identify himself as a dealer? I thought he was a collector, albeit one who bought two Speedy Tuesdays (or was it 2 Snoopys???) with one to sell.

He was a "collector" when he wanted to buy, but a "dealer" when he wanted to sell.

Curious as I had not even noticed or seen that person. What were the alarm bells and what did he do?

He was a "collector" when he wanted to buy, but a "dealer" when he wanted to sell.
A growing trend I’m afraid....
Thanks to the mods in any event.

What I have put together so far from this thread and he's FS threads

So basically he was buying as many ST and LE watches with a open WTB and also unsolicited PM ing people here and on Instagram and selling all the watches to make a few k profit on each one for himself.
And
Bragged about reserving as many ST (2 we know about) and several Snoopies when they came out. To sell for a few K profit for himself
And
Selling free Rolex magazines for $180 for profit for himself

But he was just a fellow collector. 😗

I personally dislike that but if he’s not lying, or misleading people, or harrassing them with the unsolicited email he was just doing what many dealers do buying watches from collectors on forums. The most distasteful example I saw was on another forum, a dealer bought a watch from a forum FS ad at 4k, and then two weeks later offered it on the same forum for 7k. I found that quite disgusting, especially since some other forum members would have liked to buy that watch for 4k. Not sure how to curtail practices like this though or what rule do you craft to stop it.
“Can’t buy or sell watch at profit”?

Could add a rule "It's not allowed to do obvious watch flipping".

It’s an interesting aubject. Because indeed dealers should not be able to buy and sell the same watch from and to the forum. That’s just a way of subverting the community and free riding on it.
If you buy from the forum, you’ve got to sell it elsewhere. If you sell to the forum, it better not be a watch you got from a forum member.

But if he was banned for bragging about reserving LEs so he could resell it at a profit, which is a sort of scalping, that’s kind of fair to. After all, this is a private forum which embodies certain values of integrity, if the guy professes a behavior that doesn’t look or feel ethical after all it’s up to the founders to declare him unwelcome.

He then agreed to help locate one more in my price range, which he did free of charge.

So you gave him your price range and if he got you one for that price he done that free of charge.

More like he knew how much you would pay and would unsolicited PM and try and get one as cheap as he could so he could make some cream on top because he already knew how much you would pay.

Think the fact he portrayed himself as a collector and not a dealer. And was doing exactly the example you provide above on numerous occasions here 😗

Hey I wasn't one of his targets as I am not a modern watch guy. But did know he was PMing unsolicited here and on Instagram regularly.

I even helped him once by telling him to remove his phone numbers from he's adds as that could be googled to find he's home address.

There is nothing wrong with buying and selling a watch for a profit in a short period of time... It makes markets more liquid and efficient. Finding mispriced watches and opportunities adds to the joy in collecting (for me and I'm sure many others).
But I think the the key points are: Don't intentionally mislead people in the process, be respectful and courteous, and don't harass anyone.
I've personally been annoyed by the guy, but I can't speak to the reasons for his banning.

He identified himself to me as a Dealer.
Sent me a PM stating he was a Dealer at the offset.

He referred to his activity on OF and showed where his current watches were being sold here under, Watches for Sale. Which I understand is where the Dealers sell.

Anything else being mentioned I was not aware of.
He did state he was an Active Member on RF.....I didn't hold that against him.
But it was a smooth transaction. As a dealer he asked if I was interested in any of his pieces....I declined. But found him to be courteous and true to his word in sending over funds and also provided me with personal contact info. Which was verified and felt confident in dealing. Especially as he was a Dealer here.

So to sum:
1) Stalking the forums/IG for posts on target watches and then nagging OF Members via PM to sell their watches for an insulting price?
2) Flipping said watches for higher prices here?
3) Hacking the limited edition ordering process and bragging about it?

Correct?

IWe are getting into market philosophy. First, I also used to be disgusted by dealer pricing...

Truthfully, however, it is hard to criticize anyone for selling anything for more than it was bought for. There are more than a few dealers who buy watches here and then list them elsewhere and on IG. They have spent time and money building a reputation and marketing themselves as trustworthy sellers with a quality product. Why shouldn't they be able to charge for that service? While I can never charge $1500 for a simple Seamaster, and I can roll my eyes when I see dealers do this, I don't criticize or judge. It is a valid business and there are buyers who don't want to or can't spend hours and hours learning about the intricacies of fonts on Seamasters or movement numbers. As long as the seller is being honest I don't see a problem. Better (IMO) that they spend $1500 on a correct Seamaster than start a thread here about what POS franken did I just get on ebay for $500...

That being said I have no clue who nima was. I was just responding to @Syrte 😀

My watch was posted here for sale. So certainly I wasn't stalked. But can't comment on others.
He offered to buy at the price I wanted. I knew he was a dealer. Refreshing, as I wasn't hammered to sell for lower.
I haven't seen that watch come back on here for sale.

Same here for a different dealer (not nima). Bought it for my asking - because he planned to list for double my ask. Didn't bother me. Happy to have sold for asking. 😀
