This could be interesting. Looks like a 3590.50 and was Nikolai Budarins own Speedmaster that he wore on 3 EVA's in July 1995 during the STS-71/TM-21 joint mission.

Estimate <$50k

Anyone tempted? Apart from the history it looks like a lovely example!

It is a lot of $$$ for a run of the mill speedy…… except in this community of crazies!!! 😁
Mention “space flown watch” and worn on an EVA and we go absolutely bonkers!! 🥰

So far I didn't find a picture of Budarin wearing this Speedmaster wristwatch during Mir EO-19 mission ... 📖

There're photos aboard STS-113 showing him wearing two X-33 Speedmaster chronographs... I'll keep searching, but so far no sigar...

Here are some images of STS -71 bringing up Nikolai Budarin to start his MIR 19 mission. He replaces Mir 18 flight engineer Gennadiy M. Strekalov who returns on STS - 71. You can clearly see Strekalov is wearing a Speedmaster on a leather strap, same as the one being sold.

Budarin is not seen wearing a Speedmaster in the crew transition photos only wearing a black digital watch so my theory is that the watch Budarin brings back is possibly the one we see Strekalov wearing or another one. There is clear evidence that there was a Speedmaster on a leather strap on MIR 18 and either it was left onboard for MIR 19 to use or there were multiple watches on leather. Either way, Speedmasters on leather straps flew on some MIR missions.

Thanks for sharing the photo's, it's clear there was 'a' Speedmaster there, but i'm not sure this one will hit $50k! It'll be interesting to see how it does.

What does everyone think ? I'll go $18k hammer price.

Just because this is fun to research here you go.

So to keep narrowing down the background there appears that there was indeed multiple Speedmasters on MIR 18/19 and the one on Strekalov's wrist in the pictures above came home with him.

It was sold at an RR auction in November 2012.

Yes or really close. It was not the glove in the previous auction that brought in the money and that was 2012 dollars.

The hammer price with the glove was $70,036.

EDIT - For some more historical sales history, Gennady Padalka's Speedmaster sells for $39,458 in the Oct 2017 RR auction.

Although my heart & the core of my photo-collection lays by the (Soviet-) Russian spaceflight missions... Budarin EVA photo, so far no cigar 😟

Budarin is typically seen wearing one unidentified black digital watch on his left wrist on EO 19. In this image there is a glimpse of a second watch strap which to me appears to be a leather strap with a tang style buckle. Maybe this is the Speedmaster on leather.

$70,000, to $39,000, to $18,000. Thats some serious down turn. I guess presentation of the provenance is everything with these watches and this one is not the best but even so $18,000 would be a very low result. I think double that?

$46,812 for the EVA Speedmaster, and $7562 for the NASA issued X-33. Not bad for a world on economic lockdown?
