After finding Nick Hacko in some old threads, I started following his newsletter and latest endeavor. Once I saw the dial and the techniques, I was hooked. Well, just the other evening, I got a wonderful email and could not resist.

The wait is almost over. Your NH Mark II watch is ticking cheerfully, undergoing its final assessment in our workshop. We are so proud, and excited for you to receive your watch—not because the Mark II is the most perfect watch manufactured, but because it is the most perfect Australian-made timepiece that we, a small, independent Australian watchmaker, can offer you at this point in history.

The Mark II represents so many firsts for Australian watchmaking. It’s the first watch that features guilloche on a titanium dial, delicate components like hour markers and hands in high-grade titanium, the laser-fusing of dial components, and pad printing directly onto an anodised guilloche surface. For the first time ever, we also made our casing components in-house. As one of our ambassadors said, “You watchmakers have come a long way.”

Despite showcasing so many high-tech CNC machining processes and capabilities, the Mark II is so much more than just a mechanical object. Every component has been finished, assembled and adjusted by hand, making it truly as “human” as any mechanical object of art can be.

We invite you get up close and personal, and inspect it under a magnifying glass. That’s where you’ll see the humanity for yourself, and we have no doubt you’ll be impressed.

To avoid the delays and risk associated with shipping at Christmas time, your watch will be ready for delivery in January. The thought of your new timepiece being delayed or lost on its journey to you is something we refuse to face, for that would be an irreplaceable loss.

Nevertheless, if you feel that you must receive your watch in time for Christmas, you are welcome to collect it in person. During this visit, you will also have the opportunity to select a leather strap of your choosing and help us fit it to your wrist. Please let us know, as there are limited appointments available. If this not possible, rest assured that our team is here to ensure that your watch will be packaged and shipped safely to you as soon as possible.

Since you were one of the first people to express your support and interest for the Mark II earlier this year, you are receiving this coveted opportunity to purchase a watch from the very first batch of fifty. As you know, demand for this model has exceeded our production capabilities. As such, your invoice is attached, and prompt payment is appreciated in order to secure your timepiece.

Of course, should you prefer to wait for the Mark III, then we will completely understand that your time to own a Nicholas Hacko is yet to come. In any case, we appreciate your support.

While slightly off topic, there’s another Australian watchmaker doing some amazing stuff although at a much higher price point. This is a sort of spiritual successor to the Movado Polyplan with a bent movement.

Yes, some of the closeups on IG have been startling. I appreciate what they're doing down there at the price point they have set.

Eva Leube was born in Berlin and trained in Germany, but she's worked in Switzerland, South Africa, USA and Australia where she worked for Rolex in Sydney for about six years, and then independently in Australia. But since June 2020 she is based out of Zurich. She has built two of the Ari watches, about $92,000 ea. There was a story about her in the New York Times last August. She said she was hoping to introduce her second design by the end of 2022. She has two sons, Ari, which her first watch was named after, and Leif (pronounced 'life'), so she has the name for the second watch.

Was about to say this too. Been following her for a while as the Ari watch just blew me away when I accidentally stumbled across it a year or so ago.

Edit: I should also add that I'm a huge fan of the Hacko's. There are a couple of brilliant interviews with them on the Fifth Wrist podcast, the second one is on the Independent Thinking channel and is a really good listen.

Just looking at the pic again. Are those flaws on the dial lint on the crystal or artifacts for the light angle?

Well, I did it again. Nick decided that they would do some new, limited edition colored dials. But the way they are doing it is to release a limited number this year and then end up with 55 over the next 10 years.

I saw the orange and immediately put down my deposit to get one for my birthday in March. This Time, it's via Collective Horology as they are now a delivery partner. Asher seems like a great guy so far and I've been happy to work with him.

Yes, I also really like that orange one. I was also on the original list from last year and have thoroughly enjoyed my Mk2. I also have a Mk1 so am following their journey with great interest.

For some strange reason, Orange bezels have been catching my attention lately. Especially when offset with my favorite blue.

I blame swatch.
