The best car I ever owned was my first. An Austin 1100 in beige just like the one pictured.

It was also the first car I had sex in. I may have been on my own at the time.......

If you want a car that really comes alive at 5k rpm, try any honda with a B16 motor.
100 bhp per litre. No turbo lag because there's no turbo.

This isn't the 80's...turbo lag is pretty much a thing of the past on most cars, at least anything modern that I've driven.

I'm sure you're right Al, but you should try a honda with a VTI at least once in your life to know the difference.

I have...along with plenty of naturally aspirated cars, supercharged cars, etc.

Mine are both the same - a 1998 SL500.

You can feel the integrity of design and manufacture around you. It drives exactly like a Mercedes - not dissimilar to a 1979 w123.

There is a feeling of being relaxed and having power available. What I didn't expect is how quiet it is when accelerating - I always thought cars were noisy when accelerating even moderately hard. Without the noise - it feels like an invisible force is pushing you along.

I might see if I can get a picture from the garage.

What a great thread.

I miss the B18C1 that was in my Integra GS-R. It sounded like a mini F1 engine when you let it rev to redline. 😀

Nicest I've driven is a Lamborghini Diablo or a BMW M3 CSL. Nicest I've owned is a 1987 BMW M5. Nothing too spectacular I know.

My family operated valet parking lots in Beverly Hills from 1941-2018. I had a chance to drive some of the most amazing cars ever built. Granted I only drove them for 50-100 feet, but at least I got to drive cars I would NEVER be able to afford. One stands out more than any other.
In the early seventies Dean Martin would come in with regularity and owned a beautiful Stutz Bearcat. I remember the feeling of getting in his car and feeling like I was on the top of the world. Oh the joys of youth.
This isn't his car, but this is what it looked like.......

Dean Martin...the word "celebrity" is thrown around these days way too easily and cheaply. Dean Martin was a celebrity. Who else came in?? Please name drop away........A friend worked in a bank and Charles Bronson came in. So name drop away please.

Nicest driven...Rolls Royce Azure . 2 door coupe. 2019.
Most fun ...my neighbors Dodge Demon. With the drag chip and
Rims installed. Fastest excelleration to 60mph. 9.9 quarter mile.
It is as close to Experiencing a cat launch in an F-18 you can come to.
Trust me.
