Apologies for my ignorance, but what exactly characterizes a "presentation watch"?

It means a watch that is given for a special occasion (e.g., retirement from a company after many years of service) with an inscription on the case back. See the photos on the listing.

I know that dealers have to make a living, I know that not all find inscriptions to detract from the value of a watch and I know that to some people heavy patina is a selling point, but... That watch is about twice as expensive as it has any right to be. Especially with that seconds hand that looks like it is one tick away from crumbling into dust.

Yeah, I noticed all of that, but I still like it anyway. Go figure. Not buying it though.

Nothing wrong with that watch if you like patina, but it does seem more and more like price-gouging. I just picked up a nice example of this reference in an online auction for about 1/4 of that asking price. Just sayin'.

Are you sure it's a presentation watch? 1958 and 20 Could be a birthday watch

Usually companies like their name inscribed to show who gave it

Like some others. On the very high side and no movement pictures

You may be right about whether it’s properly classified as a presentation watch, DON, and I concur that the watch is priced on the high end. That being said, I suspect that the movement is fine. Kibble offers a one year warranty on all of his watches. I purchased this vintage Genève from him last year and it’s one of the nicest watches in my collection.

I also had no idea what this meant. My first purchase and entry into vintage watches was a 2849 after long discussions with @ConElPueblo

Haven't really looked at prices for these old seamasters but it appears they have appreciated considerably over these last 3 or so years. 📖😎
