Man shoots squirrel with bow and arrow for "giving him a look"


A man from Staten Island, New York City, is facing animal cruelty charges after prosecutors say he killed a squirrel with a bow and arrow for a patently absurd reason.


Jonathan Mangia told investigators that he shot and killed the animal on Tuesday because it “gave him a look,” according to a criminal complaint that DNAInfo obtained. He reportedly said he had thrown rocks at the squirrel to scare it away from his home.


“Then the squirrel gave me a look and I took it personal,” Mangia said, according to the complaint.

This is either an ARI (Alcohol Related Incident) or the dude needs to be institutionalized. Maybe both. I have no love of squirrels. They are nothing more than rats with fuzzy tails, and any homeowner will tell you of the havoc they can wreak. Havoc for which the only solution is copious amounts of money.

But when a critter like a squirrel "give you a look" it's time for professional help. Probably medication too.

If there is another squirrel apart from the one on Staten Island I am unaware of it. I write off s lot of what happens on SI and simply attribute it to something in the water. 😀

Heck no. You don't know Staten Island. You don't go around giving attitude in Staten Island.

That is a perfectly legitimate reason for conflict there.
The only thing exceptional in the story is that it was a bow and arrow and not a firearm. The people of SI are problem solvers, see? No reason to bother law enforcement...

Oh there is. You need to do some research here. Negative talk regarding squirrels could end up getting one banned. The squirrel is sacred animal here.

Just found this thread while catching up (searched "squirrel") and got a chuckle. Besides an attitude problem, I'm in fine health.

And the posts above about "a look" are not understood by non-NorthEast Corridor natives. My custom avatar message is the sentence that's started more fist fights and violence from DC to Boston than any other words you could utter, even an F bomb combo.

Had squirrel o the front tire of my mx 5 today starin at me I could tell he was trying to steal my squirrel sized sports car
