Got to pop the hood a little while ago and take a look (I was assuming that everything was correct, largely because I wasn't willing to risk spooking the guy by having my friend ask a lot of questions up front). Thankfully it all checks out. Serial falls directly in the range for -3's (177621XX), and the movement will need a thorough rinsing at the spa. There's no damage to the dial and the lume is a really pleasant shade in pretty much all lighting conditions. The case is worn, but will do the job and is still plenty thick. Can't wait to see this thing come together. Matched hands and a new crystal are going to make this one awesome!

Quick update: Houston, we have hour and minute hands!

Still hunting for one leaf sub-dial hand and a straight chrono hand. If anyone has any leads, PM me!

[Matthew McConaughey voice] Alright alright...tracked down a set of sub-dial leaf hands. The FINAL piece to the puzzle is a chrono hand.

So - a really specific question that people may or may not know: has anyone compared service straight chrono hands to the originals? There's a service hand on eBay (click that hyperlink), and I think the tail may be thicker than the original, but it's honestly really hard to tell from pictures.

Yeah, that was my thought. For $80, it's worth a punt. Would be helpful to know if someone has tried it though.

I have one on my 2998. It does the job in a pinch, but to me it's pretty clear the stick part is fatter than the original, making the circle on it look smaller. Or maybe the circle is smaller. Either way, it's not a perfect match.

BTW: On the replacement straight second hands, the center circle is smaller on the replacements than on the originals. The circle actually takes up nearly the entire circumference of the minute hand below it on original and the diameter of the replacement hand is smaller. You can clearly see more metal around the center of the replacement hand from the minute hand when looking at it from top straight down.
